Another fantastic release in the second season of the Mayhem Manuscript, multi author series!
From the blurb:
There’s something in the woods.
I’ve started sleeping with my boots on and a knife strapped to my leg. The sleep paralysis was torture, but what came next was even worse. Waking up alone and vulnerable in the woods, far from home, following the sound of distant howling like a siren call.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me. It feels like there is a beast inside of me, desperate to escape. I’m terrified to let it free, but I’m quickly discovering that I don’t have much of a choice.
Every night the dreams return. Another place, another time. A face I can’t quite remember. Every time I wake up, I’ve walked further, until I find myself in an abandoned, crumbling cabin that feels oddly familiar. The decaying kitchen, with the haunting scent of stew and mint, the voices after dark calling a name I almost recognize, and a face in the mirror that isn’t my own. Then there are the eyes I feel watching me constantly, with a weight to them I try not to acknowledge.
I don’t know what I’m searching for, only that it feels like the forest itself is summoning me, guiding my sleeping form into its depths, whispering its secrets as phantom wounds across my skin.
The dreams are getting worse.
I’m starting to think they might be more than dreams…
Solivagant is a full-length MM dark monster romance as part of the Mayhem Manuscripts Cryptids shared world collaboration.
Katriana Prey's review:
Who else has been eager to discover what lies between the pages of this book? I know it couldn't be just me who was excited to delve into the pages that Ronan crafted, and delved in is exactly what I did.
Solivagant is a standalone MM, Monster Romance, that's a part of a multi author collab series, called Mayhem Manuscripts: Season Two.
That being said, the hype I have had for this whole series has been extreme, and when Ronan started sharing bits and pieces of these characters that excitement grew even more for me. When I first started this book, I was transported into a world full of creatures with horns, souls that turn into flowers, rituals to summon bridges to another world unlike the one Jem was familiar with, and a love between two people that defied the odds. You know that saying, "when one door closes, another one opens?", well, in this case when Jem's door closed, another one opened, as Jo.
Now, if you're reading that you may be confused.. Why are there two different names if they are the same person? Well, once you read the story yourself you'll understand, but essentially they are both inhabiting a body. Two souls who share memories and thoughts, who share a body. When you read this, I promise it'll all make sense. But let me just say that Ronan did a MASTERFUL job at honoring who Jem was while also making it known that while Jo may have Jem's memories, Jo is his own person, with his own personality. I liked that they stood apart in that way while both sharing a common interest, their love, "Tusks."
I'll be honest, it took me a bit to fully get into the way this was written, mainly because there were quite a few different POV's in the beginning. However, as I kept reading I began to appreciate those chapters because it gave us a deeper insight into what was going on. Plus, I have a sneaking suspicion that those scenes helped set up a potential spin off series? 👀 That's my suspicion, anyways.
I really enjoyed this book! I also really liked how Jo and Khorli didn't get together right away, Jo fought for quite some time before admitting, and accepting that him and his "Tusks" belong together. I appreciated how they didn't have an immediate relationship with each other, I liked how Ronan let the tension and angst build between them until it bubbled over.
This book is well worth a read, but beware, it'll leave you with questions about certain side characters! I, for one, am very curious about them and am looking forward to reading their stories in the future.
Solivagant is currently available as an e-book and paperback and can be read as part of your Kindle+ Subscription
