Partnering for the open gender ice dancing category with Ren may make or break Camden. But he can't pass up the opportunity, and there's something about Ren's cold personality that lights up the fire in Camden's.
From the blurb:
Camden
They call him the ice prince of figure skating. Ren Hasegawa. He’s controlled, brutal and beautiful, and he doesn’t look twice at me. I’m the one who’s too loud, too chaotic, the tattooed ice dance YouTuber. Our paths were never meant to cross.
Until Ren’s partner quits before a prestigious international competition. Nobody else will work with him. His career could be over. He’s desperate.
The new Gender Open category gives him one final option: Me.
He hates me, but he needs me, and I’ve got debts to pay and a whole lot of people to prove wrong.
It should be simple. Train, compete, win. But when Ren puts his hands on me, when we dance close on and off the ice, everything becomes complicated.
Ice dance doesn’t forgive mistakes. Have I just made the worst one of my life?
Ren
Camden Navarro is undisciplined, hot-blooded, and uncontrollable. He’s also my last chance to save my career.
We clash off the ice, but on it, there’s a heat to our dancing, and a passion I’ve never known. A passion I must resist.
In a sport where every fall is punished, I am falling for a man I can never have.
Every step with him is dangerous. Every dance pulls him close. Every moment we share threatens to expose a secret I have spent my entire life burying.
Without him, my career is over. With him, my heart is vulnerable.
How much of myself am I willing to sacrifice to win?
Ice Dance: An Enemies-to-Lovers MM Figure Skating Romance.
Ice Dance is the first book in a spicy MM sports rivalry duet. Join Camden, the tattooed chaos skater, and Ren, the ice cold perfectionist, as they learn to ice dance together while battling to resist each other.
Their story contains secrecy, rivals to lovers tension, forced proximity, secret desires, emotional hurt/comfort, and scorching chemistry on and off the ice.
Please note, Book 1 is enemies to lovers. Book 2 is rivals to lovers. The duet ends with a HEA. Some scenes in the duet may be distressing, reader discretion is advised. The duet content includes, but is not limited to: alcohol use, drug use, themes of addiction, character death (not main characters), and mental health challenges.
SNik's review:
First in duet (Ice Dance). Adversarial to lovers. Teammates. Close proximity. Grumpy/sunshine. POC representation. Slow burn. Dual POV. Heed content warnings. Mild cliffhanger as it’s a duet.
Ren needs a partner for an important upcoming ice dancing competition, and the open gender category allows him to consider the tattooed “bad boy,” Canadian Camden Navarro. Cam is only interested in dancing with the “ice prince” because Ren is the best, but Ren is known for chewing up partners and spitting them out, and unfortunately there is an unspoken attraction which definitely could cause problems.
For fans of figure skating and dancing this book certainly delivers with plenty of ice dancing terminology and the training involved in preparing for a competition. Sparks definitely fly between Camden and Ren, the chemistry is immediate, but Ren doesn’t allow himself to live his truth in public. This story covers months of personality clashing and the inevitable feelings they begin to have, and their internal emotions are heartbreaking which they never share with each other out loud. I do wish there had been time spent with them getting to know each other outside of dancing and skating, and I am absolutely invested in seeing how they eventually get their HEA.
