The Rake and the Cake (Marriage Market Misadventures) by Katey Hawthorne

We're back visit here Market again, except this time the story revolves around a baker, the baker's stall, and a flirty elf !!

From the blurb:

The Rake and the Cake, an f/f romantasy by Katey Hawthorne

One clever baker out to prove herself. One royal black sheep ducking her duty to the family. One mutually beneficial fake engagement that gets hotter than any magical oven.

For years, Aisling worked to get a stall inside the Everend midsummer market. Now she finally has one, and her cloud cakes are flying off the shelves. She just needs to win a few wildly contested competitions and she’ll finally have enough investment to perfect her proprietary oven–and prove once and for all that she’s just as brilliant as the rest of her family.

Brook, on the other hand, usually spends the midsummer market magically disappearing or hooking up with her flavor-of-the-year. That, and ducking her noble family’s demands that she take advantage of the busy marriage market to finally settle down with someone appropriate. If only she could convince someone to pretend to be engaged to her, to get them off her back.

Attraction blooms hot and fast the moment Aisling and Brook meet, and they quickly reach a mutually beneficial arrangement. But if their engagement is a lie, what else is, and how can they really know?

Marriage Market Misadventures is a light hearted series of queer romances where elves from all over the realm gather at the Everend Midsummer Markets to meet, match, and marry—with plenty of shenanigans along the way.

Katriana Prey's review:

Anyone who has read my reviews knows I love when there is baking in a book, and this book definitely had baking!!

Aisling is a baker, an innovative one, she created her own type of oven as well as a tail that gives her the ability to work her bakery stall all on her own and allows her to keep up with the demand of the market lines. Or well, she used to be able to keep up. She's recently realized though, with the help of a flirty elf, that she might need an extra pair of hands...

Brook was honestly a delight to read about, she's flirty, flighty, noncommital, and loves to have fun. When she first meets Ainsling, she knows she wants to have a fun night in bed with the gorgeous baker, but she never thought that she'd want more... But, it is the marriage market after all, there's love all around!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it's so cute and was really fun to read about. I enjoyed reading all of the flirty dialogs, and all of the talk about baked goods, and I also enjoyed the details regarding what Ainsling was trying to innovate. The pacing was great, the characters were fantastic, and I loved the little cameos from characters in the other books in this series!

All in all, another excellent addition to the Market!
