Seren knows his parents hate him and wants to run away, and finding out he’s a fae prince and is the next in line to rule is certainly a surprise. Nevander has been pledged to protect the prince since Seren was born, but bringing him back to the Summer court is rife with danger and keeping his devotion secret may cost him.
Both Nevander and Seren are likable characters, especially the empathic Seren and his fish out of water circumstances, although I do wish we got to learn more about Nevander’s background. I enjoyed the fact that Seren is intelligent in navigating the court and the intrigue surrounding him. It’s admirable that Nevander has been dedicated to Seren’s protection for years (it’s not clear when his romantic feelings start), and I did like the slow trust and relationship they start to build. There’s a lot to like about the world building, but there still remained so many questions left open, so this is an HFN as the plotline continues with planned new main characters in the next book.
