The wonderful thing about the Romance genre is no matter the journey a happy ever after will be there at the end. And Kat gives us the most delightful, low angst, so sexy read with our boys, August, our tattoo artist, and Drake, our firefighter. An amazing story that talks about trust, being vulnerable and eventually finding a place to belong. Different personalities that found a home with each other as they explore their vulnerabilities.
From the blurb:
The firefighter who saves August from a kitchen grease fire happens to be hot, single…and his ex-girlfriend’s brother.
August
When Serena dumps me, I barely have time to process before a sexy firefighter busts into my kitchen. Mostly because of the grease fire, but damn, he snags my attention at once. Then I find out he’s Serena’s brother. And the hits keep coming, because my parents drop the news that they’re moving down South. I’m about to be utterly alone, and I’m tempted to move too.
Drake
I’m in a rut. Work is fine, but I’m just floating through it. Meanwhile, my siblings are out there changing the world. So when the fire chief asks me to come up with a new idea for our charity event, I jump in feet-first with a charity concert. Of course, the one person who can help me is the gorgeous tattoo artist my sister used to date.
Turns out, we get along too well. So well that I can’t stop thinking about him naked. So well that I want to spend every spare second with him.
Except he’s not looking to stay, and I can’t hurt my sister by crossing that line.
Wlf_forest's review:
An amazing story that tugs at the heart strings as both main characters find it hard to trust their own feelings amongst past rejections. A romance with the development and growth of the main characters with some heat thrown in. Love the “helping hand” of a side character which you could sort of see coming or suspected but the main characters didn’t.
It makes you want to reach out and hug August and Drake as they deal with their own insecurities and yet clap your hands and cheer as they grow closer together and took the step to be willing to take a chance.
Love the character development as well as the pace of the story. Katherine has outdone herself again! Was an enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next book.
Mary C's review:
The wonderful thing about the Romance genre is no matter the journey a happy ever after will be there at the end. Low angst, high angst…dragons, wolves…NA, silver foxes…billionaire, farmer…these stories give us hope in this messy world. And Kat gives us the most delightful, low angst, so sexy read with our boys, August, our tattoo artist, and Drake, our firefighter. Their meet cute over a grease fire starts them on their way through diners, concerts, nagging parents, overachieving sisters, wonderful found family whilst having some incredible sexy times. The communication, consent, competence makes their chemistry burn up my tablet. According to other reviews there are some couples from other stories, but this is totally a standalone. Open liner is being released on June 2nd, the start of Pride, the love that pours out of this book between August and Drake, their family and friends is the hope we all need! Read this book!
Molly Otto's review:
August is one of the tattoo artists from Alchemy Ink we met in the last Brannon Boys book, and you cannot help but fall for this cinnamon roll of a man. When he is broken up with from his latest person, he needs to get rid of his concert ticket and it happens to be to his ex's brother, who just happens to be the hot fireman who helped him prevent a grease fire from destroying his place. These two are so dang right for each other, in a way that they are so similar and yet that is what balances them out beautifully. What could be a awkward situation, runs so smoothly when that person wants them together as much as they want to be together. The more you see of Alchemy Ink crew, the more you want to get to know each of these characters and hope they all find their person in the end. Kicking off Alchemy Ink with that right amount of low angst found family love sets the pace for what looks to be another fun series from Kat.
Open Liner is currently available as an e-book and paperback and can be read as part of your Kindle Unlimited Subscription
