Mutual Obsession (Nine Tenths of the Law Book 2) by Aurora Crane

Aurora knocks it out of the park yet again with another action packed, angst filled story, with found family moments, and lots of spice.

From the blurb:

Second chances with blurred lines.
Blooming love masquerading as obsession.
A shadow stepping into the light.
An inevitable connection.

Hunter
Falling in love with Xavier was the best and worst thing to ever happen to me. I try my best to shut him out, with our daughter the only connection between us. It never works; no matter the distance, he owns me, and I’ll never be free from him.

Xavier
One mistake cost me everything. Hunter is my everything, and I’ve spent years waiting for him to forgive me, let me back in. When that chance finally comes, so does a danger that threatens it all. If they want to stir the hornet’s nest, I’ll show them what I’m capable of.

Miles
I’ve guarded Xavier more than half my life, without question, without regret. I watched what losing Hunter did to him, and I know how many pieces are still left on the floor. If it helps make him whole again, I’ll do anything he needs.

Matthew
One date gone wrong, and suddenly I’m thrust into a world I’m not ready for. Except the three guys circling me, touching me, wanting me, are making it incredibly compelling. I think I can trust them with my lizard, but can I trust them with my heart?

Angel's review:

This book was difficult for me to get invested in at first as there was a lot going on, however, the more I read, the more I ended up enjoying the story.

I liked how each of these men, Hunter, Matthew, Miles, and Xavier, were all so different from each other in the way they view and handle things. Matthew is absolutely precious and sees the good in people and tries to look for a less deadly outcome in certain situations, which does make him an outsider in some ways but that's part of why his other men like him so much.

If you like enemies to lovers, this book is for you! The tension between Hunter and Xavier was so thick you could cut it with a knife. You know that expression, "don't know whether they are going to fight or sleep together?" That very much applied to Hunter and Xavier every time they were together in the same room. There was a lot of back and forth between them, there were arguments, talk of never getting together again, and then inevitably falling back into bed. Which I'm not going to lie I did personally love all the back and forth but I get why it was there. It helped provide more angst and conveyed the tension between those two.

Miles's involvement with them just felt natural with how his character was described. He's Xavier's shadow so to speak, so it makes sense for him to be with him and anyone else he's with, in everyway possible. And Matthew, the precious duckling, was my favorite character! He's just so sweet, and he rambles when he's nervous, which I can relate to, and he's just so precious! He got exposed to a world that he never knew about and while he DID freak out a bit, he mostly took it in stride, which says a lot about his character.

Now, I do wish there were less steamy scenes and more relationship building.. I would've loved to see more of a connection between all these men outside of violence and steamy moments. But I do understand why that wasn't apart of this story.

Overall, I thought this was a good book and well worth reading!
