Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, hurt/comfort, Dual POV's, arranged marriages, and so much more make up this wonderful book! A dragon prince and a lightening prince fall hard.
From the blurb:
Two princes from enemy kingdoms. Forced to marry to end a war. Can they find love when so much stands against them?
Dragon Warrior Prince Gerard bears the scars of a vicious attack from a Voltarian lightning sorcerer who stole half his vision and almost his life. Now Gerard must marry a Voltarian. He’ll do it. For peace. For duty. At least his betrothed isn't a lightning sorcerer.
Instead, his soon-to-be husband is a breathtaking beauty with no real magic. Gerard disdains the empty-headed, frivolous Prince Elias. Yet he cannot deny his attraction. Still, this can only ever be a political union. They are complete opposites. And how could someone so stunning ever want him?
Prince Elias has learned long ago never to trust. He wears his beauty like armour, keeping everyone at a distance. But when he is betrothed to Gerard, he finds himself drawn to the reserved and powerful dragon warrior. Elias can’t help but reveal parts of himself he has long kept hidden.
Yet shadowy forces are working to ensure the peace treaty fails. And Elias carries a secret that could destroy everything between them. Can the two princes find their happily ever after? Or will the treaty fail, plunging their kingdoms into war once again?
Angel's review:
When I first started reading this, I thought there was no way that Gerard and Elias could make a marriage work, especially not an actual one. As I continued reading and saw these men truly get to know one another, I realized I was wrong. They did make their marriage work, AND they made a real relationship out of their connection, despite everyone trying to tear them apart.
This book cannot be read as a standalone, you must read the previous books in the series before reading this one as there is an overarching plotline that continues in each book. From the very first moment Gerard was introduced, I was immensely intrigued by him. I felt angry on his behalf that his peers judged him so harshly based on his looks, but aside from that, I loved his character. You could tell he loves his family, and his kingdom, as well as being loyal, kind, smart, a bit rugged, and so wholesome. When people think of 'Dragon Warrior ', they think of someone who doesn't feel much, or who doesn't collect glass, or someone who's vicious. Well, Gerard is none of those things. He's a brilliant juxtaposition and I love that!
Now Elias, sweet, snarky, Elias. He's been given a rough hand at life. Losing his mother young, then losing his dad to his vindictive and manipulative stepbrother, he's been on his own for a long time. He's learned how to protect himself, what battles to fight, which ones to avoid.. Gerard is someone he never saw coming but knew he couldn't give up. And I loved how ferocious he was in getting Gerard to talk to him. I don't think he should've lied about.. well, what he lied about, but I'm very happy they worked things out as they make a terrific couple!!
As far as learning more about who's plotting against the peace treaty, we did get some more information but were also left with a lot more questions.. Such as, who are the mysterious people in robes? Who's behind the attacks? What's going to happen between the necromancer and Gerard's brother? Those are all questions I'm very eager to find out! Gigi, I'm ready for the next book!
SNik's review:
Second in series (A Royal Arrangement), best if read in order. Paranormal fantasy. Arranged marriage. Former enemies to lovers. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Gerard has visible scars from the war and he is willing to marry as part of the peace treaty, but his new husband seems frivolous and beautiful, the total opposite of Gerard. Elias has secrets on top of secrets, but he looks forward to his match with Gerard, but Gerard doesn’t let him close and the secrets may forever keep them apart.
This was another really entertaining story in the series, with two men that don’t relish an arranged marriage but find a special connection to the person that leads to feelings beyond attraction. I’m not a fan of secrets between main characters, but I did appreciate how Elias and Gerard overcame that and their adversaries, as well as trust in their love. I liked how both Elias and Gerard were capable, loyal, intelligent and willing to let themselves fall in love. Looking forward to the final(?) book between a dragon king and a necromancer prince.
