A Merry Penthouse Christmas (Single Dads All the Way) by Amanda Meuwissen

A MERRY PENTHOUSE CHRISTMAS is part of the single dads all the way combined author universe. This is a billionaire and his nanny romance. Two men from different worlds meet under unusual circumstances, may just end up being the best Christmas gift either of them have received.

From the blurb:

Real life is rarely a fairytale.

Beau de León only ever wanted the simple things in life. A steady job as a middle school history teacher, a faithful wife, and to one day become a dad. Recently, however, he lost out on all three.

Putting back the pieces of his life after his divorce, having discovered his wife was cheating on him and that their baby was not his, Beau’s luck continues to go from bad to worse when he can’t find a job in his field. Although his luck might be taking a turn for the better when he meets Arik, a single billionaire who did just become a father and needs a nanny.

Ariel “Arik” Anders only ever wanted the best in life. Success in his exceptionally lucrative business ventures, no serious relationships to tie him down, and to play as hard as he works. Recently, however, his priorities took a turn.

Rearranging his life after his ex informed him that she was pregnant and planning to have the baby but not raise it herself, Arik asked for full custody, which could be the biggest mistake he has ever made. Although he might be able to survive fatherhood after meeting Beau, the too cute for his own good out of work teacher he hires to be his nanny.

Spending time in each other’s company doesn’t mean they’ll fall into bed together. That would be a terrible idea! Worse would be if some magical holiday timing and circumstance causes them to catch feelings.

A Merry Penthouse Christmas is a standalone short story as part of the multi-author collaboration Single Dads All the Way. You can expect some mutual pining between boss and employee in this mostly sweet holiday romance with occasional hurt/comfort and a guaranteed HEA.

Molly Otto's review:

Billionaire single dad romances are one of those classic tropes you either love or don't. Amanda did a beautiful job in making it their own. I appreciated the dichotomy of the two characters and how they made one another better once they allowed their true feelings to be let out. This was more of a slow burn that they needed to become comfortable before they let their true passion out. Arik may not have been exactly father of the year material, but his heart was in the right place and hiring Beau to nanny was the right decision to lead to everyone to get what they always wanted. A fun holiday read, that I just hoped would have been a little longer to really feel all the emotions drawn out.

Angel's review:

Arik and Beau are absolutely precious together, two completely different men finding common ground and overcoming obstacles together. Even though these two are vastly different, they make sense together. They compliment one another while also contrasting too, it a brilliant blend of opposites attract along with meeting your person.

The banter Arik and Beau had was fantastic and I loved reading every bit of it! Especially when they were bantering over April making his own Little Mermaid family with naming his son Sebastian. And how Beau's brother is named Bellamy, nickname is Bell. Those moments were really adorable, as were the moments when these two were completely doting on baby Bastian. This is a really cute holiday story, featuring found family, single dad, a dedicated Manny, the true meaning of Christmas, opposites attract, and of course, love.

GreenwingReads review:

Short and sweet low-angst novella perfect for the holiday season!

I really enjoyed Arik and Beau's story. These aren't two characters that I would have guessed from the beginning would work, but they do. Arik boosts Beau's wounded self-confidence and shows him that he is worthy of good things and love. Beau grounds Arik in reality and holds him accountable.

I do wish we had seen them spend more time together on-page and Arik's assistant's personality is definitely not for everyone. He's an opinionated thing. I also didn't love how much page time was given to Arik's liaisons with others and interest in others (like his assistant, though he's gotten over that and the assistant is happily married). That just made me wonder if Beau could really keep Arik's attention once the novelty wears off. Beau is nothing like anyone else Arik spends time with. For that reason and that they never said ILY, I don't consider this an HEA, but an HFN.

That said, it's a very sweet story. Beau is wonderful all the way around. I was glad he didn't give up on his dreams in favor of Arik and his baby and Arik never expected him to. Arik never asked or expected Beau to make any sacrifices for him, though I would have liked to see him more involved with the baby so Beau wasn't "on the clock" 24/7 with only occasional breaks. But Arik did show growth as he learned to be a dad and did make an effort to spend time with his baby when he could fit it into his schedule, with one exception which I was pleased Beau took him to task over.

Overall, a solid Christmas season novella and has me interested in the rest of the multi-author series for sure.
