Riding Pine (Aspens Hockey) by R.M. Neill

RM Neill kicks off their Aspen Hockey series with RIDING PINE. A fun sweet and high heat team mascot and player hockey romance.

From the blurb:

A hockey player and a beaver walk into a bar…

I’m not a real beaver. I just play one for the Bloomburg Aspens.
You’d be surprised how many times I need to clarify that.
It’s not a traditional job, but between my yoga studio and playing the beaver, it pays the bills.
The beaver mascot gig also comes with one rule: Don’t reveal my identity to anyone.

Which wasn’t a big deal until I met this guy at the bar. A hot guy with a shy smile and a huge…wood.
Lukas Pine.
A hockey player for the Bloomburg Aspens.

He was only supposed to be a one-night stand, but we keep finding each other. Usually with our clothes off.
In my defense, I had to tell him. You should know you’re sleeping with the team mascot. Especially when the players aren’t supposed to know who I am.
Lukas is more than happy to keep it a secret, but there’s a new problem.

We’re not very good at hiding it.

And that’s when I learn riding pine isn’t always fun.

Riding Pine is a standalone novel set in the Bloomburg universe of the Sheltered Connections and Broken Horn Ranch series. A smart-mouthed former circus acrobat and a tender-hearted hockey tough guy at the end of his playing days are so hot together they have to bend not just their bodies, but the rules, to stay together. This story is pure ridiculousness with loads of spice and all the feels…oh, and some hockey.

Molly Otto's review:

This is one of those reads that has the not often found balance a sweet fun banter mixed with high spice. Most books I have found don't have that, its one or the other, RM delivered beautifully in combining the two for this sweet and spicy read. Ben moving back to his hometown becomes the mascot for the local hockey team and ends up hooking up with one of the players unknowingly. What could cause issues doesn't cause these two have great communication in and outside of the bedroom. So if you're looking for something with tons of spice without the drama this is the read for you.

SNik's review:

Standalone. Dual POV.

Returning to his hometown after losing his dream job as an aerialist, Ben is teaching yoga and is offered a new position as mascot of the local hockey minor league team. When Ben meets a smoking hot hockey player Lukas, they start a series of hookups and they eventually decide maybe to try for more, but Lukas isn’t supposed to know Ben is the team’s mascot.

This was a super steamy story that leads to feelings with two guys that just connect in a bunch of immediate ways. I’m glad Ben was honest with Lukas, and overall the story is low angst even with the possibility of their relationship being forbidden. I enjoyed all the interactions between Ben and Lukas, their quick attraction, their smoking chemistry, the easy slide into something more serious, and their commitment to trying for something more even though neither of them had been in a serious relationship before. A cute read with a talented mascot and the steady hockey player that knows that he wants a forever with the person he has found.

Heather's Review:

This was an adorably spicy story with a hint of angst and a very bendy protagonist!  Full of RM's banter and just enough hockey, it was a quick and low angst read that gave us two young men committed to trying to get it right!  I look forward to seeing where the rest of the series takes us!
