Rescued By An Alien Rogue (Help! I Went To Space and All I Got Was... Book 1) by Rae Laniley

In the mood for a space opera? Well check out this debut alien/human romance by Rae Laniley full of aliens, snark, and plenty of steam!

From the blurb:

I may have recently discovered there’s an entire universe out there, but right now, nothing exists but Tavryn.

Banjo

There’s nothing like winning a singing competition and making your life-long dream come true… and then finding out you’ve been drafted for the Human Relocation Program.

My family needs that prize money. All I have to do is make it back to Earth and record an album in one year. That’s my focus. Getting home. I can’t let myself be distracted by anything else. At least until a smoking hot alien saves me from certain death. He promises me he’ll take me home—for a price—but what if I don’t want to go home anymore?

Tavryn

Everything was going fine until I rescued this ridiculous human from a planet where he was abandoned to be some creature’s lunch. No doubt it’s because he never shuts up.

I make a living kidnapping humans and taking them home, but Banjo can’t cover my fee. Instead of selling him off to the highest bidder, I decide to be merciful and let him help me find my current client, his former roommate.

As soon as I have them in my possession, I’ll return them to Earth and never look back. Except… Banjo is more charming and attractive than any human has a right to be, and he makes such a pretty pet. Too bad he’d never want to give up his life on Earth for someone like me.

Hop on and join the ride filled with MM romance, a cranky, black cat alien, a sunny, himbo human, a sassy computer, burning hot spice, and plenty of space shenanigans. This book contains adult content suited for mature audiences only.

I can't believe this was a debut!! The world building was so fun and interesting! Fair warning though before I begin, there is humiliation kink which I did not know going into this and is usually a trope I tend to avoid or at least like forewarning about. It wasn't listed in the content warnings so I wanted to make sure I mentioned it in my review. That being said, I still ended up loving the MCs. It just took me some time to understand the dynamics of their relationship.

Tavryn was such an interesting character. I thought he was funny with all his sass. He spent a lot of the time telling Banjo how disgusting he found humans once he rescued him from certain death. As the book progressed, I started to realize what Banjo was also discovering himself. It was a mask. So much of how Tavryn presented himself to others was carefully calculated from his hat down to his boots. It seems humans weren't the only being who needed protecting in the great big outer space.

Banjo you couldn't help but love. I mean, he's a total himbo who is just so freaking cute. Bit by bit his lovely personality helped Tavryn begin to trust that what was happening between them was real. It wasn't just convenience or a fling. There were real feelings involved and it made me so happy when they both finally admitted it out loud!

The plotline ends with a HFN for our couple, but I don't think this is the last we will see of this series. There is definitely a set-up for book two and I'm excited to see where this series will go next!
