SWEET VENGEANCE is the second installment of Riley Hart's Sins of the Father series. When Ollie is forcefully brought under the protection of the O'Shea's and Cillian doesn't realize his possessiveness of the pre-law student will soon have them falling hard for each other.
From the blurb:
Cillian
I can’t figure out why I’m so intrigued by Ollie Gibson.
He’s nothing like me—soft where my world is hard, sweet and kind while I’ve grown up around violence.
But there’s a fire to him that sparks the one inside me, loyalty that calls to me, and bravery I respect even if it gets him in trouble.
When Ollie’s hurt and we don’t know if the men who attacked him will come back for more, I can’t stop myself from claiming him. There’s nothing I won’t do to protect him, even go behind his back for vengeance.
I crave him—both the sweetness and the fire, the innocence and the dirty boy he turns into under my touch.
I’ll kill for him, turn my world upside down for him, share my pain and secrets with him. Ollie helps me deal with it all—even the drama with my father.
It’s supposed to be temporary. I’m not supposed to want more, but I’m determined to keep him, and for a reason I can’t understand, Ollie wants me too.
The future lawyer and the criminal. The Good Samaritan and the killer. We’re living between two worlds, this place where vengeance can be sweet and our differences don’t matter. But we both know it can’t go on like this forever. If the violence of my world doesn’t tear us apart, one day Ollie will walk away…and I don’t know how to let myself lose him.
Content Warning: Sweet Vengeance contains discussions and grief over the loss of a parent, violence, darker themes, drug use, and morally gray characters with no redemption arc. This is still a Riley Hart romance though, so you can expect a happily ever after for our guys. Please read the note in the beginning of the book for a more detailed content warning.
Molly Otto's review:
The follow up story shows Cillian and Ollie accepting each other and Ollie into the lifestyle that he was against but learns with the bonds of these people it's actually okay. Their connection is apparent from the previous book, this story shows why they were made to be together. Cillian and Rorys relationship shows that you can find your perfect mate and yet still have a strong unbreakable bond with another. Ollie full heartedly accepts this part of these men and embraces it as he can. This makes me really want to read Rory's story and see how his partner fits into this dynamic. I adored how protective Cillian is of Ollie yet allows him to still be true to his self. We get a better understanding of the group's dynamics with this story more so than with Tiernan & Deans story. Overall, another great addition to this darker side of Riley Hart. What makes Riley such a great author is that they show you can write in any genre and still be true to yourself as a writer.
SNik's review:
Second in series (Sins of the Father), can be read as a standalone but best if read in order. Forced proximity. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
When Dean’s former roommate Ollie is hurt trying to protect someone, the “mini mob” steps in and Cillian makes it his purpose to protect Ollie. Ollie has plans to become a lawyer and he doesn’t condone anything criminal Cillian and his family do, but there’s another side to Cillian that makes Ollie question everything.
This was a fun good boy/bad boy story with a little hurt/comfort and a lot of possessiveness that ends up being mutual. I’m glad we got a good amount of background for both Cillian and Ollie, and enjoyed that they stumble into a dynamic that really works for them on both the sweet and steamy sides equally. Both men, while independent, were able to concede certain things to the other in a way that demonstrated they understood and appreciated the other in a deep way. Overall, thoroughly entertained and invested in this “mini mob” family that are loyal and love hard.
