A continuation of the Emperor's Assassin series. The dwarven Shadow Throne King may possess Tallu's heir and brother. In order to find out the truth Airón and Tallu must travel away from the protection of the capital and to a remote palace at the border with allies and enemies in tow.
From the blurb:
With our enemies dispersed, Tallu and I must confront a greater threat than either of us could dream of. Will his secrets lead to our loss or will he finally trust me with the truth he can barely whisper in the dark?
SNik's review:
Third in series (Emperor’s Assassin), must be read in order. Fantasy. Established couple. Single POV. Heed content warnings.
Immediately following the second book, this story is sort of a side quest from the ultimate goal of bringing down the empire as Airón and Tallu travel to engage the dwarven king and determine whether Tallu’s brother is still alive. The political machinations remain in full force as Airón and Tallu navigate possible allies and enemies all while trying to keep each other close and safe.
This story kept up the fast paced, danger filled adventure and had me anxious throughout worrying how Airón and Tallu would be able to come out on top. I absolutely love that Airón and Tallu are both intelligent, capable, lethal, and fiercely loyal to each other, it certainly felt as long as they were together they could overcome anything. My favorite parts are the moments Airón and Tallu have alone on page, and this story continues to be engrossing and entertaining.
Shadow Throne King is currently available as an e-book
