Just This Once (Men Of Porth Luck Book 1) by Garrett Leigh

Mal has been discharged from the army and doesn't want to return to Porth Luck except his brother and best friend are there. When his almost hookup turns out to be his new roommate, they try and keep their distance but both men feel the pull of more than attraction as they learn more about each other's hurts.

From the blurb:

Love hurts. Love heals. Love stays.

The Men of Porth Luck series is a steamy, gritty, and emotional MM small-town romance collection chock full of angst, deep connections, and healing soulmate love.

Just This Once - Men Of Porth Luck, #1

A broken soldier. A guarded nurse. A love that shouldn’t happen—and yet...

"Of course it f**king does."

Mal’s just passing through. Skylar’s the small-town nurse who fixes everyone but himself. Mal swears he won't fall, but Sky’s smile hides shadows he can’t ignore.

Those pewter-grey eyes.

That sun-kissed hair.

That ink.

We’re a mistake waiting to happen.

Inevitable. Excruciating.

So where's the harm in Just This Once?

Expect:
Steamy MM romance
Hurt/comfort & gritty angst
Small town, big hearts, found family

SNik's review:

First in series (Men of Porth Luck). Small town. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Mal returns from the army to the small town he doesn’t want to call home, but his brother and best friend are in Porth Luck running a bar, and an intriguing almost hookup is now his roommate. Skylar is a nurse and part bar owner with his friends, his past haunts him as much as Mal’s does and he doesn’t want to start something and cause problems with his found family especially as Mal plans to leave.

This story is filled with angst, a strongly loyal and loving found family, and some men that have experienced terrible things in the past and are filled with guilt. Mal and Skylar are characters that certainly make the reader empathetic to their feelings and hurts, this is due largely to the excellent writing of Garrett Leigh. Although this is the start of a new series, I did feel like I missed some background (especially for Skylar) as this story is set in the Rebel Kings MC series universe. Overall, this was a solid read and good start to a new series and I look forward to more from the men of Porth Luck.
