Did It Have to Be Gnomes?! (Carry a Faerie, Book 1) by Michele Notaro; Narrated by Zachary Zaba

A uniquely fantastic paranormal slow burn romance with way too many gnomes. Like really why so many of the creepy buggers?! Pixies, Firebirds, Curses, and Gnomes, oh my! Add in a dash of romance, and tons of lighthearted humor and that's what this story is made of.

Zachary Zaba was brought on to narrate Michele Notaros Carry a Faeire: Did it have to be Gnomes? To full audio glory.

From the blurb:

Am I afraid of gnomes? Maaaaaaaybe.

Did I take on a huge gnome job anyway? I sure did.

Am I about to ask my crush for help? Well, I have to ask someone, right?

I get called out to a huge mansion with the biggest number of invading gnomes I’ve ever seen, and I’m not sure who to call to help. And I definitely need some help.

So when Winter Montgomery just so happens to stop by, I know I have to ask him. I’ve been crushing on the handsome guy from afar for years, so now’s my chance to get close—and get some much needed support.

As long as I don’t let him see just how much I hate gnomes—okay, I’m actually terrified of them, but he doesn’t need to know that… right?

Did It Really Have to Be Gnomes?! (Carry a Faerie, Book 1) is a MM urban fantasy and the first book in Miles and Winter’s love story. Each book will have its own supernatural problem with a HFN ending for the couple, but there will be overarching plot themes throughout the series.

Molly Otto's review:

Audio fun! Zachary Zaba is so dang brillant! loved him for this book! He made these already brilliant characters even more brilliant. Such a fun listen!!

Team Miles all the way! Gnomes are creepy little thieves. No one can prove me otherwise.

absolutely adored this beautiful wild ride of a book you have an empath, Miles, who has been against the other extermination where his opd high school crush is employed. When Miles gets a job that is way too much for one man, he employs Winter. What should be a two man job becomes so much more affordable that we get to meet the rest of this beautifully dysfunctional group.

Each of these members has their fair share of secrets that in time will come to head, crossing fingers that other people can handle their truths. A well done start to an exciting new world that I look forward to devouring. and please, Miles, adopt these quirky twins to show they can be loved and supported.

SNik's review:

Audio. First in series (Carry a Faerie). Paranormal urban fantasy. Former schoolmates. Found family. Very slow burn. Dual POV.

Miles runs a humane supernatural pest control company, and his most recent job has a huge gnome infestation, so he asks his former high school crush to help him out. Winter has never forgotten Miles, and had a crush of his own, so getting asked on a job he hopes maybe he can work up to asking Miles out on a date.

This story is a whirlwind of magical world building, adventure with a side of danger, and interesting character introductions that have the possibility of a really great found family. Best of all, Miles and Winter have magic that complements the others, are full out creature and pet lovers (except for gnomes of course), and are fully invested in building something together even after only spending one crazy weekend together. This was such an entertaining story, with sweet characters, bits of magic, new and old friendships, and a ton of possibility coming for this series.

The narration by Zachary Zaba was entertaining, he gave each character a unique voice and conveyed all the different aspects of gnome wrangling in a hilarious way.
