A one night stand that brings a destitute earl and an wandering thief together, and a chance second meeting that leads to more. A treasure hunt and love for two men that are determined to survive together.
From the blurb:
Toby never meant to be a highway robber, but needs must. He didn’t plan to impersonate a top London valet either, but when the chance comes to present himself as the earl of Arvon’s new gentleman's gentleman, he grabs it. Unfortunately, the earl is the man he seduced and robbed on the road to get here. Oops.
Miles, Lord Arvon, is not impressed. But he’s faced with a tumbledown home and lost family fortune, and desperate times call for desperate measures. Toby—shameless, practical, and definitely desperate—may be just the man he needs.
To steal back a priceless bracelet, that is. What else were you thinking?
SNik's review:
Audio. #1.5 in series (Gentlemen of an Uncertain Fortune), but can be read/listened to as a standalone. Historical novella. Dual POV.
A chance meeting on the road and a steamy encounter leaves Miles without his wallet or watch. When Toby appears again, this time looking for a job, Miles agrees to employ him rather than turning him into the law. For such a quick read there is a lot of depth to this story.
A one night stand that turns up again and becomes someone important, it was really fun to see Miles and Toby navigate their differences but understand and appreciate each other’s pasts. These two are survivors and together they really gel and eventually are willing to risk a lot to be together. Really glad they got a lovely HEA. I enjoyed the narrators and felt they embodied the characters well.
