A Breath of Life (Shadowy Solutions, Book 4) by Nicky James; Narrated by Nick J. Russo

Like the entire series, this volume is highly recommended. Diem and Tallus are drawn into the criminal underground, forced to search for a missing person or their lives may be forfeit. Can their relationship survive the stress, the secrets, the fighting and if they come out alive will they still be together?

From the blurb:

What would you do for love?

On a balmy September evening, Tallus and Diem discover a man who has been attacked in an alley. Saving his life seems like the right thing to do. With his dying breath, the man thrusts an item upon the couple and makes one request. Get rid of it.

The mysterious object proves to be valuable, and Tallus doesn’t want to part with it. Keeping it makes Diem uncomfortable in a way he can’t explain. Tempers flare, but before they can come to an agreement, everything unravels.

The item is more dangerous than either of them realized.

Lies and secrets threaten to tear the couple apart as Diem is drawn into something dark and menacing. Keeping his hotheaded boyfriend safe proves to be almost impossible, but Diem’s been given a task, and he will not fail. If he does, he will lose everything.

Lesetiger's review:

iem and Tallus are back. “A Breath of Life” is the fourth volume in the Shadowy Solution series. Nicky James has once again written a very captivating case that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.

I love the stories about Diem and Tallus. They are a super cute grumpy sunshine couple. There are lots of funny verbal exchanges, lots of emotions, some of them very serious, and there are also a few shock moments, because the crime part is super exciting.

The author has a wonderful writing style, and it didn't take long for me to be drawn into the story, which starts off exciting right away. The author gets a big plus for the development of her characters, because Diem and Tallus have evolved significantly since the first volume. Add to that an interesting and exciting crime plot, and I have the perfect reading experience. This time, Diem has a lot to deal with, and above all, Tallus mustn't find out about it. But Tallus is far too smart not to realize that Diem is acting completely differently than usual. After a plot that is as dangerous as it is suspenseful and breathtaking, there is an emotionally sweet ending. In general, the emotional confessions, especially from Diem, are a really big step forward for him. So romantic!

Have I already said that I love the combination of Nicky James and Nick J. Russo? Everything just fits together perfectly here. Nick's voice for Diem is simply perfect, exactly how I imagine the grumpy Diem to be. But Nick also captures the sunny Tallus perfectly. He brings all the characters to life and makes an already very good book even better! Like the entire series, this volume is highly recommended, and I hope to experience many more volumes with Diem and Tallus.
