Bittersweet Revenge (Sins of the Father Book 1) by Riley Hart

Riley Hart takes on a darker romance in their all new series Sins of the Father. Bittersweet Revenge kicks off this all new series in a enemies to lovers romance. Revenge is sweet, so they say. But these boys learn that love is sweeter.

From the blurb:

Dean

I’ve been stalking Tiernan O’Shea online for years.

After Sloan O’Shea killed my dad, my mom and I spent years in hiding, moving from state to state, changing our names, never drawing attention to ourselves, hoping to never be found.

I’ve fed off nothing but vengeance ever since.

Tiernan O’Shea is exactly like his father—arrogant, rich, ruthless.

The plan is simple: Get accepted to Ashford U. Get close to Tiernan. Get him to trust me. And then, when he brings me home to his father, I’ll take my revenge on Sloan O’Shea.

What I don’t expect is discovering the secret side of Tiernan, the parts he doesn’t show the rest of the world. He’s as beautiful as he is brutal—deadly, yes, but he’s also the kind of man who would do anything for those he loves. We’re alike in ways I never imagined. And when he touches me, kisses me…it makes me feel like I matter.

I’ve spent my whole life hoping to even the score, but now my revenge will be bittersweet because it’ll make me lose the only man I’ve ever loved.

Content Warning: Bittersweet Revenge contains violence, darker themes, and morally gray characters with no redemption arc. This is still a Riley Hart romance though, so you can expect a happily ever after for our guys. Please use the look inside feature for a more detailed content warning.

Molly Otto's review:

Riley goes to their darker side, is this all new series, and wow, do they deliver. You still feel it is a Riley Hart book, just with an added edge to it.

Dean lost his dad when he tried to get their family away from the ties of the O'Shea family. with the passing of his mother hes now ready to get in close with their son Tiernan and take the family down for all that they cost him. The heat is at the right level for this type of romance, where maybe they shouldn't belong together, but they were meant for each other. As much as Dean doesn't want to be a part of this world, he belongs in it as Tiernans' side. These characters are all faulted, but they love strong and will do what is needed to protect those they allow in their inner circle. An exceptional start to a new series, that I can not wait to see what happens next in.

Thera Rhodes review:

I loved this book. The banter between these two was amazing. Tiernan and Dean just worked together. Cillian and rory weren't wrong when they said they were the same but different. I was worried about how we were going to get to the HEA but Riley didn't disappoint and gave it to us in a big way. I can't wait for more from this series.

SNik's review:

First in series (Sins of the Father). Adversarial to lovers. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Dean is seeking revenge for the destruction of his family, he needs to get close to fellow college student Tiernan, the son of the mafia boss that killed his father. Tiernan has always been under his father’s thumb, killing people and selling drugs on campus is part of his expected repertoire, but the angry, lust filled interactions with Dean make him yearn for more.

This type of hidden agenda story can be hit or miss with me as I’m not a fan of secrets between the main characters, but this one hit in a big way. Dean’s motivations are sympathetic, and there is no power imbalance as he meets Tiernan’s aggressive personality every step of the way. Their relationship grows from mutual attraction to a deeper unexpected connection and both men fall equally which I felt was important. Also, Dean’s reveal to Tiernan about his true motivations was a surprise and very well done. So, if you like possessive, violent boys that can be soft with their special person, tons of steam, and loyal friends and family, this story is right up your alley.
