DID IT HAVE TO BE GNOMES?! is a uniquely fantastic paranormal slow burn romance with way too many gnomes. Like really why so many of the creepy buggers?! Pixies, Firebirds, Curses, and Gnomes, oh my! Add in a dash of romance, and tons of lighthearted humor and that's what this story is made of.
From the blurb:
Am I afraid of gnomes? Maaaaaaaybe.
Did I take on a huge gnome job anyway? I sure did.
Am I about to ask my crush for help? Well, I have to ask someone, right?
I get called out to a huge mansion with the biggest number of invading gnomes I’ve ever seen, and I’m not sure who to call to help. And I definitely need some help.
So when Winter Montgomery just so happens to stop by, I know I have to ask him. I’ve been crushing on the handsome guy from afar for years, so now’s my chance to get close—and get some much needed support.
As long as I don’t let him see just how much I hate gnomes—okay, I’m actually terrified of them, but he doesn’t need to know that… right?
Did It Really Have To Be Gnomes?! (Carry A Faerie Book 1) is a MM urban fantasy and the first book in Miles and Winter’s love story. Each book will have its own supernatural problem with a HFN ending for the couple, but there will be overarching plot themes throughout the series.
Molly Otto's review:
Team Miles all the way! Gnomes are creepy little thieves. No one can prove me otherwise.
absolutely adored this beautiful wild ride of a book you have an empath, Miles, who has been against the other extermination where his opd high school crush is employed. When Miles gets a job that is way too much for one man, he employs Winter. What should be a two man job becomes so much more affordable that we get to meet the rest of this beautifully dysfunctional group.
each of these members has their fair share of secrets that in time will come to head, crossing fingers that other people can handle their truths. A welll done start to an exciting new world that I look forward to devouring. and please, Miles, adopt these quirky twins to show they can be loved and supported.
SNik's review:
First in series (Carry A Faerie). Paranormal urban fantasy. Former schoolmates. Found family. Very slow burn. Dual POV.
Miles runs a humane supernatural pest control company, and his most recent job has a huge gnome infestation, so he asks his former high school crush to help him out. Winter has never forgotten Miles, and had a crush of his own, so getting asked on a job he hopes maybe he can work up to asking Miles out on a date.
This story is a whirlwind of magical world building, adventure with a side of danger, and interesting character introductions that have the possibility of a really great found family. Best of all, Miles and Winter have magic that complements the others, are full out creature and pet lovers (except for gnomes of course), and are fully invested in building something together even after only spending one crazy weekend together. This was such an entertaining story, with sweet characters, bits of magic, new and old friendships, and a ton of possibility coming for this series. I can’t wait.
Angel's review:
((This does leave off with a cliffhanger and a HFN ending.)) Some of the things you can expect; •• Dual POV's •• Mythical and Magical beings •• Fear of Gnomes •• Hilarious banter and dialogue •• Adorable pets, and so much more!
Oh my gosh, this story is so cute! Probably the cutest story I've read in quite some time, and possibly the most unique one I've read in a while. What I love the most about reading books is when an author can take a topic/subject matter/trope and make it completely unique and their own. That's exactly what Michele accomplished with this Gnome-tastic story!
I don't know about you but I've never read a book about gnomes until I read this one, so that in itself was one of a kind. Then when you add in the presence of curses, Nulls, Empaths, Necromancers, and other types of Faeries that makes it even more unique and interesting. To say I'm blown away is an understatement.
From the moment I read the first page I was immediately transported into Miles and Winter's world full of magical beings and romance. I could not put this book down I never wanted it to end, that's how much I loved this. I thought everything was written in a really poised and detailed way, Faeries are mythical beings but Michele made them feel real with how she wrote about them. The characters were absolutely fantastic! I adore Miles, Winter, Lyric and of course the mysterious kiddos. Oh! And I can't forget about the pets either, Sola and Goliath have such big personalities, I love that they were as important as the human side characters.
The plot twist at the end I was not expecting, it was sooo good! And Michele kept that a secret throughout the whole story, I was as shocked as Winter finding that out but it just makes me even more excited for book 2! There are so many questions that I don't currently have answers to and I'm so eager to see how Michele is going to answer those questions in the next book. This is truly a fantastic book and an excellent way to kick off a brand new series. I'm so excited to see where else this goes!!
