Puppy on a Leash (Plumas Universe) by Emily Alter

Can a puppy and a Dom find their way? will they be able to overcome the issues that stand in their way or will everything fall apart for them? Autumn says "This is a new to me author, and this book is fast paced and a bit different than what I normally read."

From the Puppy on a Leash blurb:

Jaime

Um. You know that friend who harbors a crush on the man everyone tells him it’s bad news?

That was me, and that was how I ended up knocking at Tony’s door and begging for his help with a college professor, and how shit got… derailed.

Tony

I was supposed to be keeping my distance from the inner circle at Plumas, dammit. I might’ve helped found the local BDSM club, but I didn’t belong in the inner circle, no matter what some of them had to say about it.

Jaime, though? I couldn’t deny the pup intrigued me. I’d always thought they needed to be put on a tight leash, and maybe doing it was what I needed to quell all those voices inside my head.

* * *

Puppy on a Leash includes puppy play (obviously), spankings that might or might not be as intimidating as they look, spider gags, a professor/student relationship but not really (they’re in different universities), and a group of friends who might or might not understand what’s going on in Jaime’s head most of the time. Hurt/comfort, milestone achievements, and themes of found family abound, too.

Autumn's review:

A great story by this author. Jaime is impulsive and chaotic, which was a bit harder for me to connect with. But seeing how the BDSM community is through this book was great. This book is also best read with the others, to get a better understanding of the other characters. I'm not sure if this is the first MM book by this author or not, but overall, it had great plotlines.

Gabrielle Lee's review:

This is an interesting story about finding where you fit and with who. Jaime and Tony are both strong personalities and there is no denying the chemistry between them. I enjoyed being along for the ride as the two figured everything out. Their journey is full of introspection and emotions. Both have their own issues to work through as well as figuring out how they fit together. It was nice to see how both Jaime and Tony work towards a happy ending, always taking the other into consideration. I found the pacing to be a little slow but I liked seeing all the interactions between the characters and enjoyed seeing it all play out.

Heather's review:

Having not read the rest of the series, I didn't have the backstory beyond what the author shares here, so I didn't have a reason to dislike Tony the way others may have, but I found this story sweet and steamy and thought the characters came together in an interesting and organic way.  I truly liked the found family and friend group interactions, as well as the way Jaime and Tony came together on multiple levels.  I plan to go back and explore more of the Plumas universe in the future!
