Finlay (The Wild Edges Book 1) by Lark Taylor

A beautiful start to a new series featuring new and old characters, and writing so good you won't want to put it down. A duty-bound shifter clan leader meets a lonely florist hiding behind his emotional walls. Can Chester be Finlay's chosen mate? Finn is willing to wait if Chester gives him a chance.

From the Finlay blurb:

Over a century ago, my alpha lost the one he loved.
And so did I.

My love for Danny’s wife is my deepest, darkest secret. All these years later, Danny has moved on and found a new love.

I wish I could do the same.

I’m stuck in a rut, going through the same routine day after day. Leading the clan is my motivation, but it’s not enough to fill the emptiness inside.

That’s until I meet Chester.

The quiet human florist has been hurt in the past. Someone has forced him to bury the person he once was.

But I see flashes of him during our interactions. Every glimpse has me desperate to know more. To learn what makes him smile. To discover what makes him happy.

All I have to do is persuade him to give me a chance. To trust me enough to let me close.

The clan has been my motivation, but I think loving Chester is meant to be my purpose.

'Finlay' is the first book in a thrilling MM wolf shifter series. Spice, found family, action, and protective MCs are guaranteed. Each book will follow a new couple and end with a HEA.

SNik's review:

First in series (The Wild Edges). Paranormal. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Chester took his chance to escape a bad relationship and now has a thriving florist business, but emotionally he is lonely and scared to open up again. Finn leads his pack with his close group of friends and for years has denied any chance of finding love again, but meeting Chester has him willing to wait patiently for the possibility that he may have found his chosen mate.

This spin-off story to begin a new series has a lot of likable characters both main and secondary as well as a possible overarching plot that brings danger and requires protecting of their found family. I enjoyed how Chester and Finn overcome emotional obstacles with support and encouragement from each other and their friends. Whenever Chester and Finn are on page together the patience and understanding is swoony, and Chester’s ability to communicate his fears and reclaim his self-worth made this romance inspiring.

Angel's review:

""I’d been living with the belief that I’d put myself back together successfully, but now, with Chester in my arms, I knew I’d been wrong. He’d been the one to put me back together. To heal the wounds I’d never thought would close. To teach me how to love again. ""

I've been eagerly waiting for Finlay's story for quite some time, after reading Danny's book I was immensely curious about what Finlay's story was/is. The wait was well worth it, this story is incredible! I honestly don't know how Lark manages to create these multifaceted characters for each of her stories. Every book of hers I've read I've consistently been impressed and enamored with her writing ability, and her talent with creating such wonderful stories with great depth and wonderful storytelling.

Both Finlay and Chester have had a rough past, that's putting it lightly. They both have a lot of trauma to work through, but unbeknownst to them at the time, being around each other helps them find a way to heal together. I am all for a slow burn when it's done well, and it was done exceptionally well here. Finn is trying to heal in his own way after losing those he loved from afar, but once he meets Chester he knows he wants to get to know the florist better... However, despite how much himself and his wolf want him, he knows he needs to take his time and be patient with Chester, and that just really shows how beautiful their relationship with one another is.

I liked reading about the backstory of both of these characters, knowing everything they went through that led them to be where they are now, really added a layer of depth to not only themselves but to the storyline as well. My heart was breaking for Finlay, he was grieving too but felt like he had to hide it, which meant he was left alone with his grief. Chester's backstory was as equally heartbreaking, he finally got free from his ab--sive ex but not without some scars and trauma.

Gradually, overtime, we get to see these men open up to each other which was a truly beautiful thing to see. I adored how respectful and patient Finlay was of everything pertaining to Chester. It was quite beautiful seeing him open up his heart to Chester and patiently waiting for Chester to be ready to want him back. And him posing as a dog was just too cute!!

I have to talk about the side characters, specifically Logan, Evan, Reid, and Calan. They were so amazing and supportive of Finlay and Chester's relationship, and of doing whatever it takes to protect Reid. I also love them because of their playful camaraderie with one another and how fiercely they love and care for each other. They formed their own found family which was really beautiful! I'm so excited to see the rest of the Furry Calvary get their own stories!!
