Give In To Love (Once and Always Book 3) by Melody Claire

What would you do if the person who irrevocably changed your life is now your college roommate? That's what these two men have to navigate for themselves, and it's an intense journey they go on.

From the Give In To Love blurb:

A chance encounter leads to an unforgettable kiss…

TJ
Imagine my surprise when the boy I kissed in the rain five years ago turns out to be my new college roommate. I’ve spent years thinking about his halo of curls and sad eyes, wondering what became of him, and now that he’s here, I find the attraction is just as strong as ever.

He’s shy and reserved, but I think what he really needs is someone to show him his worth, and I’m determined to be that guy. But just as I get him to truly open up, a once in a lifetime opportunity has me making an impossible choice…

Jimmy
Once upon a time, TJ gave me the confidence to find myself, but life has whittled it away until I don’t even recognize the man I’ve become. But when TJ comes back into my life for a third time, I realize it’s time to make some changes, to become the man I’ve always been meant to be. And hopefully, this time, TJ will stay.

Give In To Love is Book Three in the Once and Always series featuring men finding love and their second chances. This emotional romance features themes of anxiety, neglect, and abuse. For a full list of triggers, visit my website.

Angel's review:

"You showed up at that bonfire, and for the first time in a very long time, it felt like I could take a full breath. It was like I’d been drowning, and you reached beneath the surface and pulled me out. And once I broke through the surface, I realized I never wanted to go back under again."

We first see these two characters meet as teenagers during a hot summer day. One is trying to escape all the turmoil and anguish he's had to deal with his whole life but what made it worse on that particular day is his mom had left him and his brother the day before. The other boy was searching for relaxation, but instead found a boy who was a little lost, and sad. He took it upon himself to make the boy with curls smile, and he may have just parted ways with a kiss.

Years later, both teens now young adults navigating move-in day, they are both surprised to find out that their roommate is the one they spent an unforgettable summer day with. From there they have a lot of work ahead of them but it is SO worth it in the end.

This book is absolutely fabulous! The writing is exceptional! Whenever a book has different time jumps throughout the story I worry it'll muddle things, but that didn't happen here. Everything was concise and well noted, all the events prior lined up , the flow of the story was so smooth, and the pacing was fantastic. Oh! And the characters? They are so full of life, and love, and they are just so precious. I just wanted to give them both a hug.

The relationship between TJ and Jimmy (aka Sunshine) isn't an easy one. Jimmy struggles with letting people in and believing people actually want to get to know who he is. Understandably so, but since he builds his walls so high, whenever TJ tries to get to know him better it backfires. He isn't sure how to proceed, but TJ accepts, supports, and cherishes him exactly as he is. Always asking what Jimmy needs, and what he can do for Jimmy, he genuinely listens to what Jimmy has to say when he speaks while also listening to what isn't said. Their relationship is a slow burn but in the best way possible. It's absolutely beautiful seeing how these two men interact with each other, they slowly open up to each other and are cheerleaders for each other's accomplishments. No matter how big, or how small, they are there for each other and that's so special.

I don't want to spoil anything so I won't go into any more details but what I will say is I'm really glad these two got their happily ever after in the end. They both deserved it, and they deserved each other. They are each other's person and they just fit together. I did like the side characters as well they all played a part in the storyline progressing. It was also nice seeing past characters makes appearances again. Overall a truly wonderful book!

SNik's review:

Third in series (Once and Always), but can be read as a standalone. Second chance. Roommates to lovers. Opposites attract. Hurt/comfort. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

His new college roommate is the boy he had one magical afternoon with 5 years ago, but Jimmy isn’t sure how to act around the confident and outgoing TJ. There is no way TJ is going to pass on the chance to get to be friends or more with Jimmy, he has thought of the day they met as kids often, and he knows there’s something special about his connection with Jimmy.

Split into two parts, I really enjoyed the beginning of Jimmy and TJ’s relationship, even more than the second act HEA. As they move from attraction to intimacy TJ is absolutely swoony with Jimmy, giving him consideration and understanding as they build a strong bond that never really gets broken even after years apart. Jimmy’s strength and growth is certainly a wonderful thing to see, and TJ’s constancy and never failing belief that Jimmy is his special person was the romantic icing on the cake.
