This is my favorite book Kelex has ever written, I am so sad it's over.
From the blurb:
After Echo Fisher loses his grandfather, he stumbles on a journal detailing the location of a hidden, underwater cave filled with priceless dolphinkind relics. The only issue? It’s in orca waters. Crossing the boundary could start another war… but the need to prove his grandfather wasn’t the flake everyone in the pod thought pushes him to do the unthinkable.
During his regular patrols, Maelstrom Marino notices the little dolphin shifter sitting close to the line, spying on orca waters. When Echo finally gets the nerve to cross the boundary, Mael swoops in… but almost too late. Another predator has Echo in their sights, and they’re a lot closer than he is.
Echo barely makes it out of orca waters alive—but the danger is only beginning. The following night, the orca who saved him shows up and demands to know what was so important that he’d threatened the treaty. Mael won’t leave without answers, and he’s not against persuasive seduction to get what he wants.

Angel's review:
As soon as I read the blurb I got excited, I love marine animals so for this book to feature two marine shifter animals as the main MC's I was eager to read it. As soon as I started this story I was immediately immersed into this beautiful and immaculately detailed world Kelex has created. I was so curious about the cavern Echo's Grandfather had written about in his journal, I was excited to go on that journey with Echo as he traversed into dangerous territory. In addition to that, he was also trying to maneuver his way around the minefield of having an Orca as his mate, him and Mael both know they are in for a long and difficult journey, but they were determined to do it together anyway.
It's not very often where I fall in love with not just the MC's but also with the side characters. I absolutely adored each and every character that played a part in this story, specifically, Diego and all of Mael's siblings. I really hope that each of them gets their own stories in the future, I would be very interested in seeing them fall in love themselves. And! I would love to see how the Orca pod and Dolphin pod come together in the future. We started to see a glimpse of their progress forward together hopefully working in unison, but I would love to see more! I want to learn more about Storm, Rav, Tempest, Havoc, and Diego, they are so full of life and exuberant in this story that I want to know more.
As for the main MC's themselves, they are absolutely terrific together! They definitely try to fight what they are to each other at first, but after they tried and failed to resist each other, they realized that they're better off accepting each other for what they are, and getting past the horrific views society has made everyone believe. I liked how this was an almost forbidden romance, while also being a little like Romeo and Juliet. There was Opposites Attract thrown in there too, plus fated mates! I love all of those tropes and they were done so wonderfully here. Echo and Mael are different from each other but they go together so beautifully. They have wonderful chemistry with one another and despite their differences and troubles, they made such a wonderful pair.
The scene where they both meet their babies was so heartwarming and touching, you could feel how much love they all had for each other. The found family component that came into play throughout the story was also really beautiful. All in all a terrific book that I really hope is the start of a future series!
