Blood Which Burns is the 5th in the Liquid Onyx series, it's an ongoing story and cannot be read as a standalone. Rex is back.
From the blurb:
Three months ago, Rex discovered a world-shattering truth about what it means to be a Liquid Onyx survivor and experienced devastating losses in the process.
Rex, momentarily gripped by raw fury and freshly torn grief, committed an act of shocking violence and was reforged by it.
Unable to face his new, fractured reality, he ran away from everyone who loved him and threw himself into the life of a morally grey vigilante.
Every choice Rex makes pushes him one step closer to embracing his father’s legacy. But there are other legacies who won’t let Rex fall into that darkness without a fight.
At his lowest point, will Rex find the strength and courage to step out of Alex Nova’s shadow and finally become the man—and the hero—everyone needs him to be?
Rogue's review:
- series
- continuing story
- best friend's brother
We're already on Book 5 of the Liquid Onyx series, and as it's a continuing story, prior reading is definitely required to enjoy this one. Rex is back! After the devastating events of Book 3, this is Rex possibly finally coming to terms with that and coming back to his family. I like Rex. and as much as I loved seeing Cal and Tate in the last book, I'm so happy to have Rex back here. This is full of Rex randomness, and this time he's abetted by Rohan (sugar brother 😂). Really though it's an examination of grief and loss and Rex finding his way to live with what happened.
** BEWARE POTENTIAL SPOILER **
I really enjoyed this, despite the dark themes and witnessing the obvious grief Rex was coping with after his two massive losses. I liked his relationship with Rohan, but it was great to finally see him brought back to his home and family by Caleb. If I'm honest I was always rooting for Jamie in the love triangle and it made me more than happy to finally see that resolved (although definitely not in the way I wanted). Loved the madness of the town meeting and the development of the storyline with Andy, although that ending is a massive cliffhanger. Another universe, WHAT!.
I loved this whole thing, it made me laugh and cry and now I'm dying for the next book. Can't wait to see what that brings.
