The Valrais Legacy (Forging the Stars Book 2) by J.F. Miev

The finale of a sci-fi duet that kept the suspense going. Aiden and Darren have to come to terms with wether they have a long term future together if they survive the danger chasing them.

From the The Valrais Legacy blurb:

After discovering the truth about the Valrais Family, Aiden’s fate is sealed. The only person he can trust is the man he once swore to kill – Darren Howe.
A month after Aiden’s life takes an unexpected turn, he and Darren return to the hideout on the abandoned asteroid. There, Sara’s AI reveals the contents of the Valrais Legacy, half of which are shrouded in a mystery that takes the two men to Earth.

As Aiden and Darren set out to uncover a truth that could change the world, they inevitably grow closer. The more Aiden learns about Darren, the more he sees a man who is haunted by a past he’d kept buried for too long.
Just like Aiden.

SNik's review:

Second in duet (Forging the Stars), must be read in order. Science fiction suspense. Semi-established couple. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Aiden has been thrust into a universe-changing secret and is on the run with a secret royal he once vowed to kill. Darren feels a special connection with Aiden, the yearning is strong to make him his, but their complicated past and current danger makes everything seem just out of reach.

I was engaged as the overarching plotline and intrigue continued, as Aiden and Darren follow breadcrumbs about the Valrais legacy and have to escape capture more than once, although some threads were left hanging. At times predictable, the story actually has several twists and turns as Aiden and Darren slowly engage in a tentative relationship with their future unknown. These two men with traumatic pasts, trying to overcome lies and responsibilities and come together in the way they both want were an entertaining read and I could have read more about their HEA as they embarked on something new with a found family.

Rogue's review:

- story finale
- enemies to lovers
- sci-fi

This is the second part to the Forging the Stars duet and really can only be read as part of that, as the story directly follows on from the first book. Darren and Aiden are on the run in this story, trying to come to terms with Darren's secret and everything that entails, while being hunted by the very people responsible for their situation in the first place.

This book is more focused on the relationship between the two men, at first Aiden still hates Darren while being drawn to him and tied to him by his desire to find the truth. Slowly they build something of a friendship, built on mutual respect and it slowly becomes more. It is still a slow burn but with more heat than the first book. We also get to spend more time with the side characters like Nyle, Kristen and Bea. And Nan (who's amazing!).

I loved the story, it moves along at a good pace and I was invested in it all the way through. Without a spoiler, I wasn't too set on the ending, it wasn't clear cut enough for me and I didn't really feel a satisfactory resolution to either Darren or Aiden's story. I liked it well enough and I know in the real world things don't always work out how we'd like, but with that said I did like the two resolving their relationship and coming together.

This was a good sci-fi story with plenty of nice moments and I really enjoyed the two books very much. I'm glad I read them back to back though cause I think I might have been a little lost otherwise.

Janet's review:

The Valrais Legacy is the second book in the Forging the Stars series. This was a new to me author and I really liked the story. The story had really good pacing and a great plot. Aiden and Darren had their own past trauma but they were able to get past it, made for a better connection, I think. They had had twist and turns and had to dodge betrayal. Action packed and slow burn. Overall a great story.
