The Demon Bodyguard by Alex J. Adams

The Demon Bodyguard is a paranormal story following on from the Demon Undertaker. This is Zeke and Rory's story and can be read as a standalone.

From the blurb:

A fateful assignment leads to one fated mate!

Zeke

My brother, Mal, might have been happy to bury the bodies and reap the souls, but it wasn't for me.

I was bored, looking for my next adventure when by chance, I heard about a job paying ONE MILLION F*CKING EUROS. I'd have been stupid to turn it down.

Only now, I'm sitting on my motorbike in rainy London, being paid to spy on a man I think is my mate.

Me with a mate? That's a joke. I'm a player, a Romeo, a lover. I don't have time for that.

But I guess now I'm putting love before wealth, and bang goes my one million Euros.

Because someone wants him gone and I can't have that. Revenge will be sweet, of that I have no doubt.

No one crosses a demon and gets away with it.

Rory

I'd do anything to protect my daughter, including moving from Italy to London to protect her from her grandfather, a man I loathe with a passion.

I couldn't let him take Carlotta from me. Mia would never have forgiven me. Mia, my dead wife and love of my life.

But who's spying on me? He thinks I can't see him, He thinks he's invisible.

Newsflash!

I see him, I feel him, I need him.

When trouble comes calling, he's my knight in shining armour riding in on a black Ducati.

The pull I feel is undeniable, though, and I'll not deny him or me.

It's time to put the past behind me and consider my future with the dark-haired, leather-clad demon with the yellow eyes.

An MM standalone, The Demon Bodyguard features a demon who definitely doesn’t want a mate, a human who really doesn’t want a mate and a meddling twelve year old daughter. Did someone say hot times on a motorbike?

Not forgetting a cute hellhound, and an annoying brother. The Demon Bodyguard can be read as a standalone but it may be advantageous to read The Demon Undertaker first.

TW for death of a loved one and mild violence

Rogue's review:

- demon/human
- fated mate
- paranormal
- bi/gay awakening

This is the follow up to a previous story, The Demon Undertaker and while it's set in that world, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. This is Zeke and Rory's story, and I liked both MCs very much. Rory is devoted to his daughter, and brings her to his home in England in an attempt to get away from her controlling grandfather - who is a genuinely terrible person and deserved far worse than the actual fate he got. He's selfish, controlling, gaslighting and an all round bad guy. The only good thing he ever did other than have his daughter, was hire Zeke and bring he and Rory together.

Zeke we did meet in Demon Undertaker, and it was so good to finally see Zeke get his own story. I liked that even as a demon he had a proper sense of right and wrong, and didn't buy into the grandfather's crap at all. There turned out to be way more going on there than I ever imagined at first. I liked Zeke and Rory together, it's something of a slow-ish burn as Rory had never been with a man before but there was a refreshing lack of angst about that. There's tons of heat once the two get together though, and a nice progression of the story too.

Zeke's story might have taken a while to get to us, but it was definitely worth the wait.

Molly Otto's review:

Let's just say Zeke doesn't want a fated mate he just wants to keep going with his life as is. Well, fate doesn't care and sends him on a contract that changes it all. After losing his wife, Rory and his daughter take the big step of getting out from under the thumb of his horrible in-laws. Things don't always go as planned. This brings Zeke into his little family, and everything changes once again. A gripping story that has you on the seat of your pants from start to finish. Through the events, these men's bond grows deeper, and they learn what it is to really love and live. Alex does a beautiful job in balancing sweetness with high paced action.
