Possessive Puckboy is the latest in the Puckboys Universe. This go around we have a owner /player enemies to lovers romance. What do you do when you purchase the hockey team that includes your high school bully? Well you use that power to make his life a living hell! After all, turnabout is fair play!
From the blurb:
Connor
Finding out those closest to me don’t see me as the great guy I think I am not only kicks me in the gut, it makes me question everything.
Until that happened, I didn’t think I had many regrets in my life. Now, I have nothing but regrets. And when my NHL team is bought out, and the new owner makes his presence known, my existential crisis kicks up a notch. Because he might be my biggest regret of all.
Parker Duchene.
I made his life a living hell in high school, and now he’s inserting himself into my career to repay the favor.
With everything in my personal life already on the line, I can’t risk hockey too. I need to figure out a way to play nice with the new owner.
Parker
I bought Colorado’s NHL team to honor my late father. I did. Only reason.
Emotionally playing with one of my many high school tormentors is a nice bonus though.
Connor Kikishkin may be the one who made me the target for years of name-calling, but I’ve always wondered if my hatred for him bordered too much on the obsessive side to truly be classified as hate.
Infatuation is probably the right word for it.
Now his whole life is in my hands, and I can’t wait to see him beg for my mercy. Seeing Mr. Popular find his humility will definitely ease the grief from losing my dad … right? Because right now, that’s all I have, and I need to hold on to it so I don’t crumble.
Molly Otto's review:
I'm not gonna lie. After reading Eastons story, I wasn't sure what to think of his big brother Connor. There was just something about him that I didn't gel with, then you read his story, and you get it. Connor never really had a chance to be himself. He put so much pressure on himself that he never just let himself be happy. Enter Parker, someone from his past who helps him realize truly how much his letting things affect so many others around him. It was a beautiful thing seeing these two become friends to realize that there could be something more. Connor does a lot of growing in this story in all parts of his life, as does Parker in just being happy. All around, a well thought out and engaging story.
"𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚘'𝚕𝚕 𝚊𝚙𝚙𝚛𝚎𝚌𝚒𝚊𝚝𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚜𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚎𝚍. 𝙰𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚙𝚎𝚘𝚙𝚕𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢, 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚒𝚝."
This was cute. Connor's storyline did not go in the direction I expected. He's always been such a dedicated man to both hockey and his family. Maybe a little too dedicated as we saw in his brother Easton's book Forbidden Puckboy. Then we have Parker show up as the new team owner still carrying quite a bit of animosity towards Connor for their past. All of these events have now piled onto Connor at once and it causes him to go through a huge amount of self-reflection, leading to his immense character growth as the book progresses.
Parker also had growth as a character, but I wouldn't say it was as drastic as Connor. He tended to be stuck in the past, and while learning from the past is important, it shouldn't be the be all end all of who you grow up to be. Carrying around all that anger isn't good for a person and it made me wonder if that was why Parker couldn't seem to let go of his workaholic tendencies with his ex. Throwing himself into work was his outlet and his personal life suffered the consequences.
I liked how Parker didn't just forgive Connor right off the bat. He made him work for it. Parker wanted Connor to truly understand how his actions led to Parker's hurt feelings, not just a generic I'm sorry. It also helped that once Parker got to know the real Connor, he realized that many of his assumptions about the man were without merit.
These two were very sweet once they finally got together. It helped that Parker was definitely the kind of man who liked to be possessed. Connor's jealousy tended to lead them to the bedroom rather than a fight. However, their past wasn't the only hurdle they needed to jump. There was still the fact that Parker owned the hockey team Connor played for. Like I said in the start of my review, this story didn't go the way I would expect, but I do think it ended the way it was supposed to.
Heather's review:
Connor and Parker are adorable! I've been waiting for Connor's story to be told since we met him in Easton & Knox's book, Forbidden Puckboy... I knew when he fell it was going to be delicious... but I wasn't expecting the enemies to lovers backstory or just how clueless Connor really was... and it made for a delicious redemption story and so many interesting truths for Connor.
I really enjoyed watching Parker balance his father's memory, his innate need to create and his budding relationship with Connor. It was fun watching both men find what they wanted in their relationship and in life, which made the ending so much sweeter!
It's always great to see the collective get together as well... I can't wait for the sparks to fly in book 9!
