An assassin sent to kill the man he was once obsessed with finds that his obsession is only renewed when Sid sees Dalton again after more than 20 years. On the run, they need help but everywhere they turn brings more danger.
From the His Reluctant Savior blurb:
FBI analyst Dalton Reed’s name is on my hit list, but I know I won’t do it. Though I haven’t seen Dalton in twenty-seven years, we have a history together. He saved my life many years ago, and he doesn’t even realize it. Now, it’s my turn to save him and his young son. Saving Dalton puts my life at risk with my assassin family, but I owe it to him, and I owe it to myself.
Dalton Reed
Sid, goddamn, Virgil. I haven’t seen him in twenty-seven years, and I now find him standing between me and my escape. He insists he wants to help me, but I know he was sent to kill me. I don’t trust him. He was a bastard to me growing up as a teen, and I’m sure he’s a bastard now. He’s a killer. But I’m being hunted, and I have no choice but to let Sid help. My son is all that matters.
Can these two men see beyond their past to save Dalton before it’s too late? Can Sid’s family forgive him for his betrayal?
SNik's review:
Third in series (The District), best if read in order. Second chance. Single dad. Close proximity. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Sid was sent to kill FBI analyst Dalton, but his memories of the boy from high school sends him on a mission to protect Dalton, even from Sid’s own family of assassins. On the run from the people he had trusted, Dalton’s son’s safety the most important thing, and maybe having a killer in his pocket to help get justice might not be a bad thing if he can get over all the killing.
I really enjoyed the idea of Sid reuniting with someone significant from his past, even though it was only a brief interaction it obviously stayed with him, but he also has no intention of changing for Dalton. Dalton’s acceptance of Sid is important as well as his willingness to be swept into Sid’s obsessive affection. There was plenty of action, sharing of their pasts, clear communication about where they thought the future would lead them, and a slow building of trust needed as they try to stay alive while on the run. An entertaining addition to the series, I am looking forward to more.
