Reckless Hearts (Rainbow Redemption Book 2) by Jax Calder

Marcus and Seb are a special couple that will melt your heart, following them from first teenage crush to a satisfying and hard won HEA.

From the blurb:

Some people are meant to be in your life. Others are meant to turn your life upside down.

Seb:

Marcus is my sister’s best friend. He’s also the most gorgeous and charming man in the universe. And he knows it.
He’s always seen me as a nerdy geek who can’t string together a coherent sentence around him. So when he unexpectedly propositions me at a party, I decide to take the opportunity for all it’s worth.
Turns out it’s a night that will change everything.

Marcus:
There’s one person who’s always been off-limits: my best friend’s younger brother. But when I’m annoyed at Saskia one night, I don’t just cross the line. I obliterate it.
That one night determines the trajectory of my life.
Because it turns out one encounter with Seb will never be enough. And as the years go by, Seb and I collide over and over again, drawn together by an unexplainable force neither of us can escape.
But how can I accept Seb’s heart when I’m not sure if mine is worthy to give?

Reckless Hearts is the second book in the Rainbow Redemption series but can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Thera's review:

I don't know where to begin with this book. I wanted to throw my kindle so many times but I realized that it's because it was so well written. I was literally feeling everything Seb was feeling. I swooned with him, I hurt with him, I wanted to throttle Marcus with him. I wanted to be there for Marcus and I wanted to rip my own heart out to help them get their HEA. This book was a massive roller-coaster but it was so well written. That speech at the end. Yep. Perfection.

SNik's review:

Second in series (Rainbow Redemption), but can be read as a standalone. Best friend’s brother. Opposites attract. Secret relationship. Second chance. Dual POV.

Marcus knows his best friend’s brother is considered a no-go zone, but once he starts an unexpected connection with Seb he can’t seem to let go. Seb’s not so secret crush on Marcus becomes a soul searing fling in university, but life intervenes and how many chances can they get before they have to really let go for good?

An emotional roller coaster in the best of ways, Jax Calder's writing is lyrical, full of feelings, romance and heartbreak. I really appreciated that Marcus and Seb felt like soulmates, no other person even breaks into their orbit whether they are together or apart. It was thrilling that Marcus was entranced with Seb’s intelligence and Seb sees depths to Marcus beyond just his looks, each man thoroughly devoted in such an endearing way. There were sweet moments, steamy moments, honest moments and absolutely some heart wrenching moments. Such a beautiful read, I really enjoyed every bit.

Rogue's review:

- series
- sister's best friend
- hidden relationship

In the spirit of complete honesty, while I know this is the second in a series, I don't recall the first book at all, I'm afraid. But that's okay, as I absolutely loved this one. This is Marcus and Seb's story, following them all the way from teenagers, through long distance all the way to an extremely satisfying HEA.

That being said, it's far from an easy ride for these two. Quite honestly, Seb's family have a LOT to answer for in the way they treat him and obviously favour his sister, quite blatantly. At the start I didn't care for Saskia (the sister) at all, she was a spoiled brat who treated her brother like crap. She redeemed herself by the end though. Marcus isn't without his own issues though, and it's a slow burn to find out what happened to make him the way he is, and it's super-sad. I loved these two together though, the heat between them is insane and I loved how the relationship built, the bad jokes and banter and the getting to know each other.

The twist, when it comes, almost broke my heart along with Seb's though. I knew it couldn't be plain sailing for them, but that was hard. What a way to declare and bring them back together though, such a feel-good moment and so satisfying. I loved this story so much.

Angel's review:

I'm absolutely blown away by the writing of this book, it's just beautiful! Everything from the characters, dialogue, background descriptions, all of the science facts that Seb shared, the corny puns and witty remarks was all just done so flawlessly.

There isn't a single bad thing I could say about this story, I absolutely loved Seb and Marcus. Their story does have heavy topics involved but you know what? That made the story even better for me. All of the ups and downs these two men had to go through was full of angst, but that just made the moments when they finally are happy with one another that much sweeter.

I adored the comedy that played a major role throughout this story, it helped add so much dimension to the story and it also provided a break from the angsty relationship Seb and Marcus had a long with providing a bit of a break from the heavy topics matter. My favorite scene was when Seb sent part of his seafood flying into his mom's bra... I laughed out loud when I read that scene, it's something I could see happening to me!

While this book is a work of fiction it also is realistic in a lot of ways. It's raw, and Marcus and Seb aren't perfect, they've both made mistakes, but that's what life is... It's about taking chances, and making mistakes and learning from them. These two did a wonderful job showcasing just that.

I absolutely adored Seb, I can relate to him in a lot of ways, so his character's actions really endeared him to me. I also liked Marcus, he's been through a lot in his life and while his life might've been different if he had gotten help sooner, it worked out for him in the end.

Here are some things to expect; Sister's best friend, Best friend's younger brother, opposites attract, mental health representation, abusing pills, depression, anxiety, and love in its many different forms. If heavy topics are something that you don't like reading or if it's something that could trigger you, please read with caution. I found this book to be beautiful but it is heavy, raw, emotional, and messy. But it's worth the read.

"Dreams definitely can come true. But sometimes life surprises you beyond anything you could ever imagine."
