The Backup Plan (King Sports Book 1) by Eden Finley

Welcome to King Sports where agents actually care about their clients. The Backup Plan by Eden Finley showcases the start of an amazing series. Hurt feelings, grief, and anxiety come together to form two beautiful souls who connect even when they don't want to.

From the blurb:

Thad

Failing to make it in pro ball left me absolutely devastated. Baseball has been my life, my dream, but it’s time to move on.

Becoming a sports agent was always my backup plan, and now that I’m interning at the biggest queer-focused firm in the country, I’m doing my best not to let my bitterness toward baseball affect my future.

That’s really difficult when I’m assigned to babysit Kelley Afton, hotshot rookie pitcher for Philly. He has everything I ever wanted, and he doesn’t even appreciate it. I didn’t become an agent so I could soothe the ego of diva athletes.

His constant need for validation from others frustrates me to no end, but that’s probably a good thing. Because if he didn’t have that, I’d find him irresistibly my type.

Attraction could lead to crossing lines which would put my position at King Sports in jeopardy, and I can’t have that.

I don’t have a backup for my backup plan.

Molly Otto's review:

We are officially into the world of King Sports and am so glad to be here. Thad is an intern along with Brady (Can't Say Goodbye), and unlike Brady, this was his backup plan. When things didn't go as he planned to play professional baseball, he started working for Damon and held his grief against Kelley. Kelley is a newly out professional baseball player who comes with a lot of anxiety issues that make being the spotlight an issue at best. When these two are forced to stay together, they soon learn to be real with each other. Thad learns he can not judge a man by his career and how to be a better agent because of it. The support these two show one another is a beautiful thing and one of the reasons I respect Eden as a writer. She delves into Kelley's anxiety and how to cope with it while being part of a world that often thrusts your life into the spotlight. If the rest of this series is half as good as this, we are in for a treat with King Sports.

Heather's Review:

I'm so excited to explore this new side of Eden Finley's world - we've had teases of King Sports, but this is the first of the new series dedicated to the agents at King Sports.  I really enjoyed watching the seeming enemies to lovers take time to get to know each other and find their common ground - the forced proximity didn't hurt either...

I appreciated the chance to revisit Brady's relationship too - and see how that all shakes out with his long distance loves...

This was a fast paced read with lots of steam and a truly likeable pair of main characters!  I like where this series has started and can't wait to see where it goes in the future!
