Dakota would never believe that Jay was unworthy of his love, and now he just has to get Jay to work on believing that too. Even when danger lurks, their supportive friends and family help them keep investing in each other until they can't imagine being apart.
From the blurb:
Failure. Trash. Loser. Unlovable.
You name it, I probably heard it. I heard it so much, I believed it. Why wouldn’t I? No one besides my best friends ever stuck around, and they were as messed up as me.
Then Dakota came along. He was everything I wasn’t. Smart. Educated. He had a big family who loved and cared about him. He should have run the other way when he saw me, but he didn’t.
Brick by brick, Dakota destroyed the walls that had been around my heart. As much as I tried to protect myself, Dakota made it impossible, weaving his way into my soul until he was a part of me, and I couldn’t breathe without him. He showed me that I deserved good things. That I was worthy of love.
Just when I thought I could finally be happy, someone tried to come in and destroy all that Dakota and I had been building. He thought he could come in and claim the one person who made me feel whole? The one person that I could allow myself to love and love me in return?
I don’t think so.
Dakota Kelly was forever mine and God help anyone who tried to touch him.

SNik's review:
Standalone but part of the author’s Forever universe. Age gap. Semi-established relationship. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Working as an ICU nurse, Dakota sees something in Jay while the man is there visiting his dying mother, Dakota befriends Jay and then continues to seek more. But even once Dakota and Jay are a committed couple, Jay has doubts of his worthiness and it begins to cause problems for them. As Dakota and Jay work on solidifying their relationship, both not willing to walk away, they also have to deal with a possible stalker which brings them even closer together.
I enjoyed that Dakota and Jay were already a couple at the beginning of the book, the immediate spice, and the turmoil between them that both are willing to fight against. Both these characters were likable and true to their backgrounds and there was a strong sense of their emotional attachment and love. I appreciated both sets of family and found family being supportive and important and that I never doubted for a minute that Dakota and Jay would find their HEA.
