Jackson has his challenge right in his face daily. Ash refuses to be ignored. Add in entertaining relatives and this is fun story. "....Because when I look at you, and when I look around at this place, I don't see temporary. I see what I want my life to be...."
From the Sweet Like Whiskey blurb:
The only thing worse than letting him in is the thought of letting him go.
Jackson
If there’s one thing I don’t need upsetting my quiet and comfortable routine in the small town of Darling, Montana, it’s newcomer Ash Alcott crash landing on my family’s ranch like some sort of blonde angel.
I don’t need his flirting. Or his smile. I don’t need the way he makes me question whether or not I’m truly happy being alone at forty. I certainly don’t need to be giving him riding lessons or appreciating the meals he cooks for the ranch.
The man is dangerous for my equilibrium. And he could up and leave at any given moment, tiring of this way of life. It’s happened before.
No, I’m better off ignoring the way he looks at home in a new pair of boots and how my family and the ranchers all adore him. Ash may have brought some sunshine into our lives, but it’s best he learn sooner rather than later…
Ain’t nothing sweet about being saddled with a cowboy like me.
Sweet Like Whiskey is a grumpy/sunshine, small town romance between a stubborn cowboy and the optimistic out-of-towner who’s determined to win him over. There’s ranch life, close-knit family dynamics, gorgeous mountain views, moonlit shenanigans in a hayloft, and one very HEA. It’s book 1 in The Darling Brothers series but can be read as a standalone.
Reed Kaye's review:
I really enjoyed this fun, romantic story.
Ash is wanting a total change in his life and takes a big step by moving and tries to create a new life. Little does he expect to run across Jackson.
Jackson is still trying to recover from a breakup. He grumps through his daily life without hope of the future he had planned. Then his mom hires Ash and Jackson’s life gets turned upside down.
Ash is a breath of fresh air. He has this upbeat personality that just doesn’t quit and refuses to let Jackson ignore the attraction between them.
I love these characters. I really enjoyed Jackson’s parents. They appear both frustrating and lovable. His brothers are also unique. I can’t wait to read their stories.
Oh my giddy Aunt.....what a beautiful story this is !!! It's very smooth......hehehehe (couldn't resist !!). The characters - perfect sunshine/grump trope. Add to that the setting and world building and other characters - sooo very well done that you actually feel like you're in it !! As for the MC's, I love how we get to know them and why they are the way they are gradually....just like getting to know a new friend. I absolutely adore Ash - he's honest and direct but also sincere and patient....he makes his desires known but then gives Jackson time. But he's no pushover, as it's soon discovered..... And Jackson, heart of gold that one. The dynamic between them is undeniable......it's the sweetest thang, just like this whole book. This book will totally become a comfort read ...and reread !!!
Heather's Review:
This book was the epitome of low angst, get out of your own way romance! I absolutely adored Ash from the moment we meet him and I love how quickly he became part of the fabric of the Darling ranch and how he made everyone around him feel seen and special! I adored watching him win over all the cowboys and break down Jackson's walls...
I'm so glad this book wasn't standalone, because I truly need to see more of Jackson's family and watch his brothers find their HEA!
