Passing Through Purgatory (Passing Through Cafe #1) by Nik Knight

When the Hell dimension offers a job opportunity, Oliver is too low on finances to say no. But a chance opportunity brings him an unshakable group of friends and a second chance with the demon that may just be the love of his life.

From the Passing Through Purgatory blurb:

When Oliver applied for a job in the Hell dimension on a whim, he didn’t expect it to turn his whole world—or his heart—entirely upside down.

Recently graduated at twenty-six, and two months behind on rent, Oliver Barnes is desperate. So desperate, in fact, that he applies for a job in the Greed district of Hell’s Pentagram. But when he misses his train and, subsequently, his job interview, he stumbles, instead, upon a strange little coffee shop in the middle of Purgatory’s barren desert—and into an unexpected opportunity.

It isn’t the job he came to Hell for, but maybe it’s exactly the job he needs.

As he navigates the demon dimension and tries to survive the ridiculous shenanigans of his unholy co-workers, Oliver soon falls head-over-ass for a tentacled lawyer with electric fingers and a deadly-sharp grin. Together, they discover that, sometimes, love and happiness can be just a train ride away.

Join Oliver and the rest of the eccentric staff of The Passing Through Cafe in Nik Knight’s new rom-com urban fantasy series, full of found family, embarrassing encounters, spicy situations, and love that crosses dimensions

SNik's review:

First in series (Passing Through Cafe) . Paranormal urban fantasy. Found family. Slow burn. Single POV.

Oliver needs a job badly, and a random decision brings him to the Passing Through Cafe where he meets a diverse group of demons that unexpectedly become like family. Oliver also finds himself getting a second chance with Liel, a lawyer he met on a drunken night out and still feels a strong connection with, which further cements his appreciation for the Hell dimension.

This story starts with a fish out of water human that is befriended by a chaotic group of coworkers and eventually finds falling in love can be fast, sweet and spicy. All of the dialogue in this book is fun, and I especially enjoyed the conversations between Liel and Oliver which was the foundation of their relationship. I admit I laughed out loud at parts, and this story was entertaining for sure. A solid introduction to a group of likable characters for this start of a new series surrounding the Passing Through Cafe.
