Make Believe, Paddle Creek Daddies #6 by HJ Welch

A dollification story set in the fabulous Paddle Creek Daddies series, Make Believe, is an introduction to a new kink for Jacquie.

From the blurb:

One scorned doll. His enemy’s straight father. Is it revenge, or could this be true love?

KADENCE

Secretly fooling around with a closeted D-bag like Logan McKenna was always a bad idea. So I ended it, much to his fury. Retribution is swift, and his humiliation of me is devastating. I can’t let him get
away with it, though. That’s why a chance meeting with his supposedly straight father seems like the perfect revenge scheme. I’ll seduce him with my alter ego, Kiki the living doll, and once I have some juicy photos, I’ll ruin the entire family.

Except Rafferty McKenna is nothing like his son. He’s kind, thoughtful, tender, and not to mention hot as all sin. I’ve been broken down by not only his son but my homophobic family and my callous ex-Daddy. But as Rafferty starts to piece me back together with love and care, can I really go through with this plan of mine?

RAFFERTY

When a living doll throws himself at me, it doesn’t matter that he’s a boy not a girl. He’s simply mine and I can do whatever I want with him. One passionate encounter at a party won’t do, so I invite him to stay with me for a weekend, but even that’s not enough. He makes me feel alive in a way my failed marriage never has. However, as our connection gets deeper, I can tell he’s keeping secrets. This is just a fling, and I can’t seriously be thinking about burning my whole life down for something that’s not even real. Right?

Make Believe is a steamy, standalone MM romance. It’s the sixth book in the Paddle Creek Daddies series, where it’s always the quiet ones who get up to the best kind of trouble. This book features Kiki the fabulous, bratty doll who will do anything for her Daddy, an extremely naughty conference call, a romantic picnic, two hearts in need of mending, plenty of secrets that need to come out, and a guaranteed HEA with absolutely no cliffhanger.

Content warnings: This book features a scene of consensual sharing, as well as a loveless marriage with both husband and wife knowingly cheating on one another. However, Kadence and Rafferty never cheat on each other.

Jacquie's Review:

Dollification is a newer one to me. I've read it in another context before, usually less consensual, so this was refreshing and I found I enjoyed it this way around. Kiki is a very pretty and sweet doll who just wants to behave for Daddy.

The initial plan Kadence has was to ruin Rafferty and, by extension, his son Logan, who had hurt him. Very quickly, that plan is pushed aside because of the connection the pair share, though Kadence does struggle with the guilt of even planning it.

Plenty of steamy moments, including a scene where Kiki is shared with others. I liked this, and it made sense for where they were at in their relationship.

Rafferty, despite having an awakening fairly late on in life, is open to new things and communicates pretty well with Kadence.

Though it is part of Paddle Creek, Make Believe can be read as a standalone.

Make Believe is available to buy as an ebook or to read with Kindle Unlimited subscription.
