The nerd squad is back this time its Doc's turn to fall. Doc and His Shadow is a low angst story with a continuing plot throughout the series.
From the blurb:
Brandon “Doc” Taylor was a pink haired twink doctor who ran his own clinic in the rough side of the city. He was also a hacker, and belonged to a group of fellow hackers, who he considered his brothers. They had formed the name King Arthur in the hacker world, letting them think it was one person, instead of the six of them.
Vasily “Vasa” Nicolayevich was an enforcer from the Borya Commission. He was one of six enforcers assigned to help protect the men of King Arthur. Being a six-foot, four-inch bald Russian, he usually intimidated everyone who crossed his path. And yes, it was intentional. He pretty much hated people as a general rule.
Doc thought Vasa was hot from the moment they met, and all he could think about was jumping the man. But soon after they begin to move closer together, Doc’s clinic is attacked, and he’s hurt. Can Vasa keep him safe, and will the Nerd Squad recover from the new attacks?

Molly Otto's Review:
Another fun read in the nerd squad series this time its Doc and his Russian protectors turn. Doc is a snarky brat with a heart too big for his own good and Vasa will do anything to protect him and make him happy. When Docs clinic is attacked our group gets help from all yhe local gangs knowing his clinic is needed. The heart of these stories makes you love these men even more. Each one will do anything to make the lives of others around them better and to not endure what the have in their pasts. Overall fun and engaging read. Will continue with this series as it comes out
This can be read as a standalone but their is an ongoing plot throughout the series.

Another easy to read book from Dani. The nerd squad is back with their mob protectors. Doc and his shadow Vasa falls into a routine until Doc’s clinic is attacked and Doc is injured. The nerd squad, mobs and street gangs all band together to create a new clinic for Doc. Vasa is just as dedicated to looking after Doc as Doc is looking after the general community. Love how the story just unfolds.
Looking forward to the other books in the series.

This is the second book in the Nerd Squad series and so far I am loving them and I do suggest you read in order. Doc is a snarky twink and Vasa is just perfect for him. I can't wait to read more from this series.
SNiK's Review:
Second in series (The Nerd Squad), best if read in order. Bodyguard. Found family. Slow burn. Instalove. Quick read.
Being assigned to guard the pink haired doctor that’s part of the hack group known as King Arthus is no hardship for Vasa, and he quickly falls for Brandon while protecting him. Brandon happily accepts Vasa into his life and into his heart as they work together to rebuild the health clinic for the indigent and homeless Brandon has dedicated his life to.
With the support of their group of adopted brothers of hackers and bodyguards, Brandon and Vasa seamlessly build a relationship together. Again there is a lot of telling and not showing in this story, but the story was pretty straight forward and enjoyable. A quick story with some action and some steam, but tons of found family vibes.
Lori C's review:
What starts the series off is a beating to one of the hackers. This leads all of the group to be given bodyguards, two from each mob for a total of six, so each hacker has a guard. Now Doc's story starts from his own perspective a few weeks into the situation. He feels friendly towards Vasa, his guard, and they work together well. The story moves pretty quickly from start to finish, bombing of the clinic to Doc and Vasa being engaged. It was more of a building friendship and then love. It's all the little things you do for your significant other, making sure they eat well, making sure they get plenty of rest, and little nicknames. It's there and if you read between the lines, you can see a romance blooming, it just isn't in your face.
What really kept me reading this book was the story, the potential story. I really feel like this is going to be a long arc that goes through all six hackers and their bodyguards. So I expect romance or at least a relationship from each book. I also expect that the story of the Cartel moving in will be advanced in each book. I like that each hacker and guard get their own book (or that's my expectation at this point) and each gets to have their own story in this bigger group story. As a reader, I like learning the backstory behind each main character. Doc has a past, just like the entire group, and he has had to grow past that. Vasa has his own past in Russia and what he and his friend Igor do to protect others in Russia is amazing. As a couple, Vasa and Doc can help each other grow. They can protect each other and care for each other and care for the other people in their family.
I really liked the first book, so I knew off the bat that I was going to like this book. I really like the found family aspect first between the hackers and now with the bodyguards being added in. I like the suspense of the story, what will happen next, will someone get hurt, will the Cartel get their foot in the door? To me, this series is more than just a romance, it has the suspense that will pull me in deeper and quicker as a reader than just an instalove storyline. I'm invested in finding out what happens next now and as always I'm in a hurry for the rest of the books to come out.
