The Captain and His Thief (The Pirate's Revenge Book 1) by Katy Haye

The Captain And His Thief is a new adventure series that starts with a thief named Hakan stealing from a special man that may have use for Hakan's pirate connections. Ramorran refuses to trust another pirate, but he's desperate to retrieve what was stolen from him, and unfortunately the handsome and charming Hakan is his best chance.

From the blurb:

Your enemy’s enemy is your friend…
Pirate Hakan’s crew was scattered when they were all sold into slavery a year ago. Now, he’ll do whatever it takes to reunite them. Steal a boat? That’s nothing! Persuade its furious captain to help him? That’s harder – until he discovers Ramorran’s sworn enemy is also the man imprisoning his crew.

Never trust a pirate…
Ramorran abandoned his family for the man he loved, only to be betrayed. Now, he can’t return home without what his deceitful pirate lover stole. Hakan’s offer to help is tempting – as is the man himself. But Ramorran is determined never to fall for a pirate again. He’ll stick with Hakan until they’ve taken revenge and not a minute longer.

They’re stronger together…
Vengeance drives them both like an ocean current, but as enemies multiply, friends show their true colours, and secrets threaten to spill like a boat holed in battle, Hakan and Ramorran will need to trust each other to defeat the deadly pirate king.

And are they both so focused on past hurts that they’re missing out on something far more precious right in front of them?

The Captain And His Thief contains: a bi pirate who doesn't know a good thing when he sees it, a gay sailor with secrets who recognises a good thing but doesn't dare hope for it, inappropriate dice games, and an only-one-hammock situation.

SNiK's Review:

First in series (The Pirates Revenge). Historical fantasy. Found family. Dual POV.

Hakan is a newly freed pirate, released from servitude, and intent on rescuing his former crew when he tries to borrow/steal a boat belonging to Ramorran, a man on his own mission. After some negotiating, they agree to help each other in confronting their shared enemy, having trouble ignoring their mutual attraction while at sea, and on top of that Ramorran is keeping a secret.

I enjoyed both Hakan and Ramorran’s soft fall for each other, one of them not used to doing anything but casual and the other having been hurt and his trust betrayed before. Hakan is quick to invest in Ramorran and Ramorran finds there is a kindness underneath the pirate posturing that Hakan displays. It is too bad there isn’t more time spent exploring both Hakan and Ramorran’s backgrounds and history, and having them learn more about each other as they are likable characters. The adventure and found family were really fun, and there are tons of possibilities in this world build, so I’m interested to see where the series goes.
