Star Stakes (The Brotherhood: Legacy Book 6) by Merry Farmer

Star Stakes is the final, and maybe most surprising book in the Brotherhood Legacy series.

From the blurb:

Dating a rising film star is exciting, but the stakes of living in the public eye could leave both of them wondering if love is worth the risk.

Brotherhood historian Casper Penhurst has always lived in the past and his own mind, and he’s felt invisible because of it. He’s been passed over for his dream job of teaching at a major university and rejected by literary agents one too many times because of it. Now he’s working as an on-set consultant for the After the Wartelevision production, but he might as well be one of the props for all the attention people pay to him.

Then rising superstar Sawyer Kingston smashes into his life—literally—and brings Casper out of the shadows and into celebrity chaos.

Sawyer has always felt like his sexuality is his own business, but with his celebrity star suddenly rocketing to the stratosphere, everyone wants to know if he’s really gay or if he’s faking it. The only thing Sawyer is interested in is captivating Casper and the way the shy historian makes him feel so good about himself. But as someone who considers himself borderline ace, Sawyer worries he won’t be enough…for Casper or for the voracious public expectations of what a superstar should be.

Star Stakes is the sixth book in The Brotherhood: Legacy series…which tells modern-day stories of the men of The Brotherhood. It involves a step back in time on a film set, midnight snacks and kisses, social media disasters, good interviews and really, really horrible ones too, sweetness and understanding, The Chameleon Club, finding love on their own terms and no one else’s and, of course, the nearly two-hundred-year-old organization known as The Brotherhood. You can read more about the origins and Victorian doings of The Brotherhood in The Brotherhood: Origins and The Brotherhood series.

Heather's Review:

I knew Casper's love story would be special from the get go, but honestly Sawyer was an amazing match for him... sweet, so supportive and so willing to soak up the history and lore that surround Casper....

And Casper is such an amazing partner for Sawyer - patient, sweet and willing to make their relationship work despite the constraints of Sawyer's job and family.

This was a lovely end to the Brotherhood Legacy series and a great chance to see what Merry Farmer can do with a character driven story where the characters are on the demisexual/asexual spectrum.... this book could be read standalone, however you'll miss the deep history of the Brotherhood, as this book truly expects you to understand what has come before.
