Only Unity Will Spare Us (The Magi Accounts 5) by Michele Notaro

Series finale going out with a ton of danger an even higher amount of swoon. Cos and Mads have never been more committed but their glimpses of a happy future together are shadowed by the rogue witches determined to hurt them and their family.

From the Only Unity Will Spare Us blurb:

I made a promise to the enemy… and I intended to keep it.

Thank the goddess I have my pride and my wonderful, amazing mate—whose patience matches no other—because the world is in chaos, and Cosmo is my rock, my safe place inside the storm. If only I could find the time between witches, work, politics, and family to prove it to him.

The Shifter and Magi Equality Act is in full effect, supposedly making us equals, but the people themselves—the humans—are still treating us as lesser. Every time I turn around, we’re running into trouble between humans and non-humans.

To make matters worse, witches are everywhere in Fairview City, and the Red Cloth is encouraging humans to join their forces and challenge the equality my people have fought so hard to get.

And now, Anderson is back. Back and gunning for me.

But he doesn’t realize I’m gunning for him, too.

Only Unity Will Spare Us is the fifth and FINAL book in the MM urban fantasy series, The Magi Accounts. It’s recommended to read the series in order because the romance and plot progress throughout the series.

*Intended for adults only. Please read the trigger warnings at the beginning of this novel.

SNik's review:

Fifth in series (The Magi Accounts), this is the finale to the series and must be read in order. Paranormal urban fantasy. Established couple. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Mostly single POV. Heed content warnings.

Madeo and Cosmo are still fighting for their freedom, for their family/pride, and for their love. This story starts with a beginning of equality for magi and shifters with humans, but Mads and Cos are still battling alien Taragorian breaches as well as the deadly Red Cloth witches. Cos and Mads remain fully committed to each other and their family, trying to keep everyone safe while finding time to share special moments together.

This book finalizes the overarching story arcs, with some action as well as some romantic scenes (where Mads says “blech” but I thoroughly enjoyed them). Not as tense as some of the other books in the series as this is obviously the final book so I knew many things would be resolved, there was still so much danger hovering and plenty of heartwrenching developments. Sad to see this series end, but I really enjoyed the peek into the future for the HEA for Cos and Mads and their family.
