Lose Me to Love You by Chloe B. Young

Lose Me to Love You is a story about leaning ways to cope with grief, magic, and falling in love.

From the blurb:

At the bottom of a downward spiral of alcohol, sex, and risky behaviors, Matty Hill discovers that
magic is real and that a mysterious man will teach him how to wield it if he can deal with the trauma of his past and present.

Sean Wildgust, Matty’s new teacher, is as secretive as he is fascinating. But when those secrets come back to haunt them both, Matty must decide if obsession is the same thing as love.

Angel's Review:

Lose Me to Love You is a gritty story. It is not fluffy or full of romance. It's more on the darker side while showcasing the harsh realities of life. Matty lost his whole family in a house fire and ever since then has been in a downward spiral. He uses booze and drugs to try to escape the thoughts of his family that are no longer with him.

When Sean appears in his life, he shows him a different way to live, a better way. Sean helps Matty detox and shows him how to meditate, and he really took his time getting to know Matty, and was patient with him even when he was being stubborn. I appreciated how much focus there was on Matty detoxing and getting sober. I liked how Sean stuck by his side and helped him through it. How even after he did detox, Sean didn't just leave him afterwards. After detoxing came learning how to wield magic, and that was fun to read about!

The plot twist I was not expecting, it was done exceptionally well! I enjoyed this story. The characters did develop a relationship with each other, which was a slow burn. While their relationship occurred and developed on the page, I don't think I would classify this as a romance story... I almost this the magic and mystery is the forefront, and the romance is a bit of foreshadowing. Which I thought worked well with these characters. Overall, a great read!
