Meats & Memories: An MM Opposites Attract Romance (Heartcraft Market Book 2) by Duckie Mack

Meats & Memories is the second in the Heartcraft series, sweet, funny and low angst.

From the blurb:

Dash made bad decisions in the past, ones that he paid for behind bars. He’s left his old life behind, but the memories linger. He finds a passion in food and sells his smoked meats and sausages at the
Heartcraft Market.

Evan loves his job as a sonographer, but sometimes the weight of his work wears on him. He surrounds himself with flowers and pretty things that remind him of the beauty in life.

Done with dating apps, Evan hopes to find someone in real life. When the intriguing tattooed man at the market catches his eye, could this be the “meat” cute the vegetarian was hoping for?

Dash is drawn to the crop top-wearing cutie that frequents his booth, but can Evan accept his past?

Meats & Memories is an opposites attract story that features tattoos, twirly skirts, and seeing beneath the surface. The Heartcraft Market series features stand-alone novels that can be enjoyed on their own or read with the series to revisit your favorite characters.

Sheena's Review:

This is the second in a series, but can easily be read as a standalone - although there are quite a few Easter eggs not only from the first book in the series but from previous series. It could easily standalone, though. This is Dash and Evan's story, we do meet Dash briefly in the first book but know very little about him.

I loved this story, these are two very different guys but both looking for the same thing and it was such a delight to see them connect and find their forever with each other. I was enchanted with these two from their first meeting at the market when Dash thought Evan was an angel. They are complete opposites, light and dark together, and that's why it works. This is funny too, the meat puns are never ending and I'm here for them, that will never not be funny 😂.  For all that Dash has been through, there's remarkably little angst too, aside from the understandable PTSD, and I was so happy when he got his closure on that part of his life in the end too.

This is so much fun, low angst, sweet, hot and funny and I can't wait for more from Heartcraft market.

Angel's Review:

As much as I adored Pies & Promises, I think this one might be my favorite now. I really liked both Dash and Evan's characters. I thought they were really great separately and when they were around each other they were even better. I laughed out loud at the scene where Evan buys Dash's meat and Starla picks on him for it. Especially since he's s vegetarian.

Dash's character surprised me, he was very thoughtful and creative. Yes, he was imprisoned but he learned from that. He did better, he worked hard to be better and to do better. He did what he could to learn and further better not only his business but himself. And when an angel appears in front of his booth he knows he can't just let the angel fly away.

Evan's character is hilarious! He's boisterous, outgoing, sweet, kind and loves his job. He listens to Dash's life story and doesn't judge him for it or holds it against him. Instead Evan tried to help Dash leave his past where it belongs, in the past.

I loved that Dash researched and tried to gain more knowledge about how to make vegetarian items. I thought that was so sweet and special. He didn't have to do that but he chose to because he wanted his recipes to be available for everyone, not just meat eaters. Also, if someone ever made me cheese, and then fed it to me, I would be a goner! I don't blame Evan for being completely smitten with Dash. I liked seeing Jason and Nico appear in this story, along with Collin's character getting introduced.

What o love the most is how Duckie incorporated little nods to her other series throughout not only this book but her other stories as well. And even though she has had Easter eggs in her other books, this one is packed full of them! It's really fun to see who or what she's going to reference. Within the first few chapters there was a nod up her Love Bank series, as well as her Black Cat Circus series. I loved both of those series so seeing them being mentioned was really cool. Crow's nest was also mentioned quite a few times, and Jonah and Van made quite an appearance as well.

This book was incredible and I'm so excited to learn more about Collin.
