From the blurb:
I thought we were building a friendship. Turns out I’m falling in love.
I’ve always wanted simple things. Become the local sheriff like my dad. Get married and have kids. Build a life in Forestville.
At forty-eight, I’m single and co-parenting my two daughters with my ex-wife. My chances of meeting someone new in my small town are slim. Have I missed my chance at happiness?
When a new high school teacher moves into town, I recognize a kindred spirit. Keaton’s my age and a single dad too, and we hit it off, becoming friends.
The more time we spend together, the closer we grow. I love hanging out with him, and he seems to feel the same way.
When I realize our friendship has become something more, it’s the biggest shock of my life. I’ve never been attracted to men, but I can’t deny my feelings for Keaton.
But he and his sons struggle to feel at home in Forestville, and I can’t ever see myself leaving, so what does that mean for us? Is there even an “us,” or am I delusional in thinking we have a future together?
Awakening the Sheriff is a small town, single dads romance with a bisexual awakening between two men who grow from friends to lovers. This gay romance novel is the second book in the Forestville Silver Foxes series, a contemporary small town MM romance series featuring hot silver foxes and the men who fall in love with them. Each book can be read as a standalone.
Sheena's Review:
Awakening the Sheriff is the second in a series, but can be read as a standalone. We do meet Auden briefly in the first book, as part of the friend group the series is centered around. Keaton is new to town, having moved to Forestville to give his sons a more stable life after some trouble in Atlanta, and both are divorced dads, although with very different ex-wife situations.
Keaton is struggling with his eldest son, who resents being moved across the country away from his friends, and seems to blame his dad and is acting out and causing trouble. He also doesn't seem to have the support he thought he did from his ex-wife either, which is also causing trouble for him. Auden is the opposite. He has the complete support of his ex-wife although there's a story there which I won't spoil, that didn't help their relationship although they're friends and supportive of each other now. I loved how Auden and Keaton built a friendship first. It was so sweet to see them getting to know each other and joining each other in their respective hobbies, something neither had before.
I also liked how Auden didn't have too much angst about realizing he was bisexual and his attraction to Keaton, and once he did, he wasn't afraid to ask for what he wanted, and was all in from the start. These two work so well together and I love how supportive they were of each other in everything. I am loving this whole series, actually, and I can't wait for more.

Heather's Review:
Awakening the Sheriff gives us our second visit to Forestville and helps the 'straight' member of the re-formed friend group find his HEA and explore finding attraction with a man later in life.
I am truly enjoying this series because the men in the story are dealing with things that are reflected in my own life - dealing with teenagers, middle age and in Keaton's case, uprooting those teens and moving them away from what they've always known and I did that to my own kids a few years ago...
The drama doesn't come from current relationship angst, but from some ex-drama and of course, the kids... it was a study in contrasts and I truly enjoyed delving into the story.
I truly love how Nora Phoenix weaves the threads of the characters lives together and gives us a sweet HEA and a wonderful new blended family!
