What If It's Us, What If It's Us #1 by Adam Silvera, Becky Albertalli

What If It's Us is an adorable YA story of two boys and one summer to decide if the universe had meant for them to meet?

From the blurb:

Love Nick and Charlie from Heartstopper? Meet Arthur and Ben! From INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING authors Adam Silvera (They Both Die At The End) and Becky Albertalli (Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda) comes a long-awaited collaboration about two very different boys who can't decide if the universe is pushing them together or pulling them apart.

Soon to be a feature film, adapted by the creator of 13 Reasons Why!

Meet Arthur and Ben.

ARTHUR is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.
BEN thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when the boys have a chance meeting at the post office, they leave wondering what exactly the universe does have in store for them.

What if - in a city of eight million people - they can't find each other again?

What if they do ... and then can’t nail a first date even after three do-overs?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is? What if it's us?

PRAISE FOR BECKY ALBERTALLI:

'The love child of John Green and Rainbow Rowell.' Teen Vogue

Dez's Review:

Ben Alejo believed the universe was out to screw him over. Recently broken-hearted by his first love and former best friend Ben is content with the fact that nothing can last. He is wholly unprepared to meet the enigmatic boy at the post office who can’t seem to mind his own business.

Arthur Seuss(no he’s not related at all to Dr. Seuss) is in Heaven or something similar as he takes his first step into what he hopes is Broadway-ish summer in New York. Born and raised hun Georgia, Arthur is nothing short of starstruck by New York but he quickly realizes the residents of New York don’t break out in musical numbers every 30 minutes. Arthur is contemplating his knowledge of Nee York when he stumbles upon the cutest boy he’s ever seen passing the post office.  He takes a leap of faith and prays the universe knows what it’s doing.

I couldn’t put this book down! Arthur and Ben’s relationship and me rolling my eyes and shaking my head all while wearing the stupidest of smiles. I’ve never wanted to take two characters by the hand and shove them into a tight space together until they figured it out! Lol the tension between Arthur and Ben was just the right or awkward teen feelings and first time lovers.

I’m nervous and excited to read the next book, Here’s To Us! Adam and Becky did an amazing job creating these two beautiful characters and I’m eager to see what the universe has in store for our boys.

Rating: 4.5 Stars
