Johnson x 2 (Stick Handling Book 1) by Shae Michaels

Johnson x 2 gives us a hockey romance starring two rivals from opposing teams with the same last name. If you read the last book in the Pine Ridge series, I know you must have been as desperate for this as much as me!

From the blurb:

They’re both professional hockey players, albeit for different teams. They’re both attending the same celebrity charity golf tournament. And they both have a hotel reservation under the name ‘J. Johnson’.

Or so they thought.

What happens when the hotel accidentally only holds one room instead of two? Can these two antagonistic, rival hockey players manage to share a hotel room without any sexy, forbidden, naughty hanky panky?

For Jaime Johnson and J.J. Johnson, the answer is… no.

A momentary lapse in judgment is all it can be. That’s all they can let it be. But what if underneath all the sniping and squabbling, there was… more?

Jaime Johnson and J.J. Johnson know how to handle being enemies. Can they handle falling in love?

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

I absolutely loved Johnson x 2! I mean it's a steamy hockey romance with Rivals to Lovers trope so I was pretty sure it was gunna be a win for me to begin with, but I honestly just loved it. J.J. was one of those MCs who you want to hate, but you can't. He's cocky and full of himself. He offers absolutely zero apologies for his behavior because he point blank isn't sorry. That's just how he is. But he's also sweet in his own way. Giving is his love language and even though some of the things he decides would make the perfect gifts are downright outrageous or completely off the mark, it comes from a place of love.

Jaime is definitely his opposite in personality. He's more subdued. Doesn't like to swear. He likes this things orderly and by the book. He makes a plan for things instead of flying by the seat of his pants like J.J. seems to favor. These two absolutely should not work on paper, but somehow they just do. Especially in the bedroom. I mean holy hell these two set the sheets on fire and it seems it's also the one place besides the ice where Jaime sheds his subdued personality and evenly meets J.J. on his playing field.

"I hope you got some sleep on the plane. It's going to be a long night."

I also enjoyed the little bits we see of the other hockey players. There are some big secrets that come out near the end and have me wondering which couple is going to be next. I can't wait to find out who it's going to be!

SNik's Review:

First in series (Stick Handling). Rivals to lovers. Close proximity. Opposites attract. Dual POV.

Professional hockey player Jaime can’t stand JJ Johnson, he’s annoying, arrogant and a big jerkhead anytime they play each other on the ice. Honestly, JJ can’t help riling Jaime up, perhaps he has a small crush on the straitlaced hottie, and getting Jaime to cuss and get flustered is a favorite pastime.

When a hotel mix up has them sharing a room, JJ makes an offer Jaime can’t refuse, and they burn up the sheets with their chemistry.

JJ is truly carefree and confident, he is brave and does not apologize for his over the top behavior, and even though Jaime is his opposite in almost every way, Jaime can see the goodness and caring in JJ’s nature, and it pushes him to be more daring as well.

As they spend time together (when JJ basically invites himself to stay with Jaime), they find a lot in common even beyond hockey and an unexpected intimate relationship where they can’t imagine being without each other.

Plenty of steamy times between two sweet guys that make falling in love fun and easy.

Angel's Review:

I have read all of Shae's books to date, so when she announced this book I jumped at the chance to read this a bit early. I'm not a huge sports person but I've really enjoyed reading certain sports romances lately, and I'm always trying new tropes/themes. So I was excited to give this a read.

J.J and Jaimie both unfortunately have the same last name which causes a lot of arguments and sparring on the ice. But when both men have to share a hotel room together their animosity towards one another develops into something else.

These two men burned hot! There was great world building along with having great side characters that fit into the story. I loved Greg and Crystal's character, they are J.J's family, and they're the ones who have his back always. I also enjoyed 'seeing' other Loons players, it was cool to see them appear in this book. I'm looking forward to whose story is going to be coming next. The reason I didn't rate this a 5 star rating is cause they spent... ALOT of their time in bed... Which I sort of understand since this book is an enemies to lovers, and then an enemies with benefits but I was not prepared for all the steamy scenes.

Overall a good unexpected story! I'm eager to read more!

Heather's Review:

I love a good rivals to lovers story and Shae Michaels packs Johnson x2 with their signature blend of sweet and steamy romance.  This one involved forced proximity, only one bed and a lot of awkward sweet moments once they resolved their on-ice differences...

I truly appreciate the chance to get a glimpse of JJ and his found family as well as some glimpses of future stories in this series!
