Heart on His Lead by J.R. Hart

Heart on His Lead is a cute doggy romance story that involves homemade dog treats, and love.

From the blurb:

Jobless Julian has been struggling to get his life in order for a while now. When his sister asks him to dogsit, he’s turned off by the idea. For one, he’s never been a dog person. For two, her pampered pooch Sprinkles takes a lot of extra work.

Thankfully, dog expert, former dog trainer, and current romance writer Cole has experience with Sprinkles. Too bad he’s annoying…and cute. Growing closer feels inevitable, but when a sudden accident makes Cole second-guess Julian’s dog-oriented decision-making, Julian needs to prove he’s changed from doggy downer to man’s best friend. That, or forget the grand gesture and admit this dogsitting thing—and his time with Cole—was only ever temporary.

Angel's Review:

Heart On His Lead by J.R. Hart was such an adorkably cute story about a guy who can't seem to keep a job who also isn't the biggest fan of dogs, and a guy who loves dogs who's also a writer.

This book was so cute, I very much enjoyed reading this. It made me smile throughout the whole time I was reading it.

Julian is having a rough time feeling like he's good enough. Right now he has no job and no place to live. So when his sister says he can come dog sit for her it's a win-win, he gets a place to win and a job, albeit temporarily. At first things don't go so well, but then he slowly develops a bond with Sprinkles. And then he meets Cole, who not only helps him with Sprinkles but also brings joy to Julian's life.

These two were oh so sweet together, my favorite part was when these two were making homemade dog treats together. That was such a cute and intimate moment in this book; along with it being a pivitol part in the book. Cole was so sweet to Julian, teasing him about his care of Sprinkles but Cole was also trying to help him as well. I also enjoyed the moments where Bruiser, (Cole's dog) and Sprinkles would play together and snuggle up with one another. Cause she's such a small dog and Bruiser is a bigger dog, but yet they are still good doggy friends.

This was really well written, and the characters were so much fun to read about. The relationship develops slowly between Coke and Julian and it was a slow burn at first, then it turned to a friends to lovers situation.

There was a certain scene that tugged at my heart strings, (once you read it, you'll understand which scene I'm talking about.)

I love, love, love that the author included 'The Official No-BS Dog Treat Recipe' in the back of the book. That's so much fun, and I'm looking forward to making it for my doggo.

Overall a really great read! If anyone is wondering about the spice level I would say it's a 2 out of a 5 for a spice level. Not too much spice in this story.

Tatted_book_freak's Review:

I'm not quite sure how to feel about this story. On the one hand, it was a delightful and loveable story with pets, yet on the other hand, it still felt like it was missing connections between all characters, pets included. The thing is, I've previously read this author's work and had absolutely no issues with connecting with the characters, so maybe it's just a fluke.

The storyline was unique, along with the help of a couple of animals. Witnessing Julian's growth throughout the book was enjoyable, even though Cole was a little bit of an ass toward him. It was a complete plot twist with discovering Molly’s secret, though! I did begin to get bored in the beginning but was swept right back when Julian's excitement began. Otherwise, quick and fun read, bonus points for the inclusion of pups!
