The Husband Hoax, Accidental Love #1 by Saxon James - Review and Giveaway

If all the characters of The Husband Hoax boarded a train, that would be the literal definition of a Hot Mess Express.

From the blurb:

Christian

Being invited to my cousin’s wedding really shouldn’t be such a big deal except, oh yeah, I haven't seen my family for a decade.
My parents turned their backs on me and I’ve done everything since to become successful and show them what they lost. Only, it’s kinda hard to be a success when you’re a walking trainwreck.
So I’m going to fake it. Hire a guy with an online presence so impressive they’ll be desperate to welcome me back into the elitist fold, and roll into the wedding with the kind of confidence I’ve never felt a day in my life.
The plan’s a knockout.
Until my fake date cancels minutes before the ceremony.

Émile

One letter from my dearly departed grandfather, and suddenly I’m on a husband hunt.
He’s reworked his entire will so I’m set to inherit far more than I'm entitled to, and all because he’s asked me to use that money for “good”.
In order to get that inheritance, though, there’s one stipulation: marriage.
Even with his request, I’m tempted to stick to my original plan of getting as far from my wretched family as possible, and letting them fight it out.
But then I run into a tall drink of scattered mess outside of a wedding who’s in desperate need of a date, and the pieces click into place.
I help him, he helps me.
Marriage, money, then go our separate ways.
Easy.
Now all I have to do is stop myself from actually falling for the guy.

Sheena's Review:

The Husband Hoax is the first in a new series, although there is a prequel novella. This is a group of friends who live in a rented house in Seattle and it's such a diverse cast of characters, I can't wait to meet them all and read their stories. This first story is Emile and Christian, and I really enjoyed it. Sadly, I think Christian's story is all too common, thrown out by his family when he revealed he was gay and has had a hard time because of it. I love that he's found his own family though, and I'm a real believer in found family. It's quite often better than blood family. I loved Emile and Christian's first meeting, and I love how accident prone Christian is too.

These two together are hot, sweet, cute and just everything. I loved their instant connection and seeing them build something together without really realizing it. I thought Christian's family were toxic for throwing him out. They were nothing on Emile's family. They were the absolute worst. It was such a satisfying journey to see them both come to terms with their blood family and their own found family. Without a spoiler, I also loved Christian's surprise for Emile. It made me smile.

I loved this so much, found family is my jam. I can't wait for more in this series.

Jacquie's Review:

The Husband Hoax was absolutely going to be a 5 star read for me until about 80%, even though I spent time wishing they would have a conversation. They made me smile while at the same time wanting to knock their heads together. The end picked things back up for me, that was so sweet, that I couldn't help but be charmed by it.

It had all the tropes I love: marriage of convenience, fake dating, and found family. Christian and Emile were lovely together, and their chemistry came across well. They had easy affection that quickly grew into something else.

I'm so interested in getting the stories for the rest of the group. Such a great bunch of characters.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

When Saxon James said she was starting a new series about hot mess men, I honestly couldn't have imaged just how unbelievably true those words would turn out to be... until I read this book. I swear Christian is the living embodiment of Murphy's Law. You know the one. "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." I'm not kidding when I say I cringed in mutual embarrassment on more than one occasion while reading and it wasn't even happening to me! Thank the goddess Émile is impossible to embarrass because, as it turns out, that's exactly the type of man who's the perfect fit for Christian.

Speaking of our other MC, Émile was nothing like he first appeared to be when the book began. Once he and Christian had their meet cute, his real personality began to shine through. And let me tell you folks, that man is freaking hilarious. Every time he threw a posh sounding dig, it had me giggling like a loon. Not to mention the downright humorous ways he tried to take the heat off Christian in one of his disaster moments. They were quite inventive.

I can't end this review without mentioning the rest of the Christians crew aka the stars of the Accidental Love series. From nudist hippie Madden to incurable hypochondriac Xander, these men are one of a kind misfits. I honestly don't know who I'm more excited for next, though I think Madden's story ought to be interesting considering the man loathes wearing any type of clothing. I also am sort of hoping that another side character Darcy, whom I totally warmed up to by the end, gets his own HEA with one of the guys. Guess time will tell!

Heather's Review:

Clueless, hot mess, fake dating, marriage of convenience... whatever you call it, the Husband Hoax is a fabulous read!  Saxon James takes opposites attract to whole new levels - from the circumstances that bring Christian and Emile together to the way they handle their family situations, this book is humorous, steamy, sweet and amazing.  I couldn't put it down... and I can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the cast of characters that Saxon has introduced us to!

Zakiyya's Review:

Opposites attract in its finest form.

With crystal clear writing and an addictive story, this book had me wholly absorbed.

Christian and Émile were wonderfully-written characters, they had a lot of depth and were easy to read and feel what they felt.

For the life in me, I can't understand why this is my first time reading something by this author but I plan on seeking out a whole lot more of her work now... 💙💙
