The Claws of Winter, Arcane Hearts #7 by Nazri Noor

Return to the Black Market with Xander and Jackson as their adventures continue. New friends, old intrigue and more obstacles popping up along the way, The Claws of Winter is the exciting penultimate book in the Arcane Hearts series.

From the blurb:

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

The guild of artificers is so close to completion, Jackson Pryde can almost taste it. Befriending the Black Market's guilds has paid off. Everyone agrees that Jackson should become master of the artificers, even Mother Dough, the powerful guild of bakers.

But it’s not all sugar and spice. A strange sorcerer has reawakened Xander's interest in Incandescence. The second AI has unearthed a bizarre blueprint. And not everything is as it seems in the Verdance.

Tensions mount as the fae courts question the value of human friendship – and human life. Jackson and Xander may have saved the King of Summer, but now they must face the wrath of the Queen of Winter.

SNik's Review:

Seventh in series (Arcane Hearts), must be read in order. Paranormal fantasy adventure. Established couple. Single POV.

The Hall of Makers is coming along, and Xander and Jackson are now friendly with many of the Black Market guild masters, along with a growing friendship with King Oberon of the fae summer court.

Many story arcs continue with Lore and Whitby continuing growing as individual AI entities, Xander’s parents are still unhappy with Jackson and Xander’s relationship, and there is still the question of where the Chrysanthemysts originated. Most importantly, there are some sweet and spicy interactions between Xander and Jackson, and nothing can come between them.

The Claws of Winter continues the series with entertaining action and intrigue, the supportive found family of friends, and the solid relationship Xander and Jackson have built.

This fantasy world has been so enjoyable to read and learn about, and compelling characters to root for, with enough adventures and romance to keep me smiling.

Only one more book for this series and I will be sad to see these characters go, but I can’t wait for their long awaited and deserved HEA.

Rating: 4.5 Stars
