Lucien (Vampire's Mate #3) by Grae Bryan

A near feral vampire finds his mate. But does Lucien deserve the vibrant young man that is determined to be with him? Lucien can't let him go, but will Jamie be able to accept becoming a lethal vampire's mate for all eternity?

From the blurb:

Jamie Hernandez loves his life. He has his family, his friends, and a successful freelance career at just
twenty-three. The only thing missing? His monster. The one Jamie has seen in his dreams for the past five years. Jamie doesn’t know much about the enigmatic man from his visions, but he doesn’t need to. He knows enough. He knows they belong together.

Lucien Volaire has been losing his mind for almost half a century, the monster within him steadily taking greater control over his thoughts and actions. He’s destroyed everything he’s touched, including the people he’s cared for. The one thing that could stop his final descent into madness? A mate. So when Luc meets a young man in the desert, one who smells like heaven and doesn’t run in fear, Luc knows he’s met his last chance at redemption.

But the more Lucien is enchanted by Jamie, the more reluctant he is to taint him with his own vampire curse. Can Lucien find a balance between love and obsession? Or will those that want Luc out of their territory step in before he has a chance?

Lucien is a heated, fated-mates MM paranormal romance with an HEA and no cliffhanger. It contains a morally grey, obsessive vampire with anger management issues and the bright, playful human who might just match him in possessive romantic tendencies. It also contains steamy scenes between two men, and the moderate violence (and mentions of blood) that one might expect from a vampire romance. This book can be read as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed in order (it is especially recommended to read book one first).

SNik's Review:

Third in series (Vampire’s Mate), best if read in order. Fated mates. Found family. Dual POV.

Lucien has wanted a mate for hundreds of years, but at this point after all the destruction he has caused he’s not sure if he deserves one anymore. Jamie has had visions of Lucien and knows they are meant to be together, but with Lucien hesitant to turn him, Jamie has to show Luc that he is a mate that will stick around no matter what.

This story has an irredeemable vampire and the man that accepts all of him. I really appreciated that Jamie knows his own mind. He has no hesitation in his attraction and never wavers in his belief that he belongs with Lucien.

Lucien’s POV shows he can be thoughtful and self sacrificing in his refusal to selfishly take away Jamie's choices and humanity, and although he is possessive, he wants to give Jamie the power to decide.

I enjoyed all their interactions and dialogue, Jamie’s confidence, Lucien’s desperation for Jamie, and all their steamy times. Some cameos from some of the series cast of characters, along with sweet family relationships and some action made this a really entertaining read. HEA and epilogue that shows these men are truly mates.

Janet's Review:

Lucien is the third book in the Vampire Mate’s series. I’ve been waiting for Lucian and Jamie’s story for what feels like forever!

Lucian is complicated, complex. Lucian has been around a long time. He’s done things not so good, but maybe a mate is what he needs. Jamie has psychic visions and has known that he would have a monster as a mate, he’s had dreams and has seen him, knows they belong together. Jamie is the light, sunshine to Lucien’s dark soul. I loved everything about this book!!

Overall, a fantastic addition to the series. Well written with addicting pacing. I could not put it down.
