Trained Royal by Elouise East

Elouise East brings us the next book in the Club Royal series with Patrick's story, Trained Royal

From the blurb:

Patrick is trying to balance what he wants with what he can have. As a prince in line to the throne, his movements are under scrutiny every single day. The only time he can be himself is with his family behind locked doors or alone at home. Having his extended family gunning for those of different orientations makes life more volatile, and he orders his bodyguard to train him for what he believes is inevitable - an assassination attempt.

Kieren has been Patrick’s bodyguard for several years, and he has huge admiration for everything the man has to put up with. But lately, things have stepped up, and lives are in the balance. When Patrick asks - no orders - him to train him to protect not only himself but his family, Kieren’s heart breaks. No one should have to become that, but he will do everything in his power to ensure Patrick is safe, even if that means giving his life.

When a particularly heavy training session brings forth Patrick’s emotions, Kieren struggles to contain his own until Patrick kisses him - then all bets are off.

This is an MM book containing impact play, BDSM scenes and D/s dynamics in all forms. It also has lots of loving, friendships, family drama and, of course, a HEA.

Heather's Review:

Elouise East always seems to balance the ongoing intrigue with individual character development to give us a complete story within the Club Royal world and she does it again with Patrick and Kieren.  This is another power imbalance story with Kieren working for the royal family, both protecting Patrick and teaching him to defend himself...

For me, the love story in Trained Royal was the highlight and it was lovely to see Patrick get his HEA, but I struggled with the ongoing plot and the whole group encounters.  I found that some of the interplay and commentary from other couples took me out of Kieren and Patrick's story.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series, with the Frederick getting his HEA and hopefully having the more of the whys of the intrigue solved as well... I'm truly hoping for an interesting plot twist or two...

As always, this book should be read in order to get the full understanding of the family dynamics and the intrigue - if you haven't started the series yet, please check out my review of Rogue Royal
