His Lordship's Return is another adventure for Alfie and Nick as they stumble upon another murder which draws them back to their former lives in London's slums. The pressure on their relationship is overwhelming as the harsh lifestyle and their personal histories are difficult to overcome as they search for a murderer.
For Dominick and Alfie, it feels like they've only just settled into life at Balcarres House when an urgent letter from an old friend has them racing back to London. However, they're not returning to Alfie's swirling ton of money and nobility, but to the dark underside of the city that Dominick knows all too well.
In a desperate race against time, they'll have to walk streets that Alfie barely remembers and Dominick hoped to forget. Their return brings up terrors better left in the past and for one of them, the strain may be too much to bear.
Under the shadow of the workhouse, they'll have to act quickly to stop a killer or the lives lost may be their own.

Returning to London begins another adventure for Alfie and Nick when a murder occurs and no one will investigate. However, looking for answers leads Nick back to the rookery he had escaped from and the danger begins to take a toll, straining Alfie and Nick’s relationship.
This story felt more tense to me than the previous books, with the risk of their true identities being discovered as well as their hidden relationship seemingly high, Alfie and Nick dealt with the murderers victims piling up and no help being given.
As expected both Alfie and Nick try to protect the other, which causes them problems, neither man at his best when separated from the other.
Still very much enjoying their love and commitment, willingness to sacrifice for each other, and their own set of morality in trying to gather answers to unmask the killer.
This series has been an entertaining and fun read, can’t wait to see what’s next for Alfie and Nick as their adventures continue.
