Audio Review: The Stone Series Boxset: Books 1-3 By: BL Maxwell Narrated by: Allen Jeffries

Laora calls The Stone Series "an enthralling fantastical world where enemies become allies and some mates."

From the blurb:

The guardians were created for protection, but they were used in the past to protect a power-hungry vampire. Made of stone, they're all impervious to harm, but their hearts can still be broken. All three books surround the same faction of gargoyles, but each highlights a different fated mate couple. Each book can be listened to as a stand-alone but best enjoyed as a paranormal romance series.

Book One: Stone Under Skin:

Ankit has lived many lifetimes. Once, long ago, he was made of stone and marked with symbols and sigils meant to safeguard him and allow him to protect and serve others. He’s a living gargoyle now, cursed to live as a human; always watching, at all times aware, and constantly searching for his fated one.

While walking home from his job as a librarian, Ethan Lewis is beaten and robbed. Ankit stumbles upon him and instantly recognizes him as the man he’s fated to. He helps him back to his apartment and, after tending his injuries, watches over him.

Fate has woven their lives together for centuries, but in every lifetime, they could never live freely or love each other as Ankit has often dreamed of. To change their destiny, they’ll fight together with other gargoyles and a young watcher who is unaware of the tremendous power she possesses. This will be the last battle against their creator, and they’ll either die fighting for their freedom or survive to live the life they’ve always yearned for.

Book Two: Blood Beneath Stone:

The gargoyles have always been guardians. They were created to protect the citadel and the surrounding area from vampires. When one of their own finds his fated mate, some of the other gargoyles dream of finding their other half, too.

Petro has dreamed of not being alone anymore. Of having someone to share his life with and give it more meaning. When he finds a vampire while on patrol, he has no idea how much his life is about to change.

Keir is a vampire. He’s been alive longer than many of the gargoyles. But his existence has become a life of hiding during the day to avoid the sun, and avoiding people until he is forced to feed. A chance meeting changes that, and he’s forced to do the bidding of another ancient. Someone with more power over his will than anything he’s experienced before.

Fated mates and sworn enemies. A gargoyle and a vampire who will test the strength of their bond and all it means to them.

Book Three: Stone Hearts:

Two Guardians meant for war are now given the permission to love. After the last battle had been fought, and any threats have been eliminated, the watcher decrees that the guardians should go forth and live as they would choose. A life of freedom and happiness. But without a mate, some of them have no idea how to accomplish this.

Aasim helped Jashik through the mending of his broken wing, and his feelings for the injured gargoyle grew during the time they spent together. Aasim does not trust easily, but he has complete faith in Jashik, so when they’re told they should go and enjoy any happiness they can, he’s eager, but also a little hesitant as they decide to begin a life together. Neither of them has a mate, so the prospect of not being alone for eternity is very appealing to him, but still, he’s afraid to open his heart to the other gargoyle.

They were promised a lifetime of peace, but the arrival of an old forgotten foe brings all the gargoyles together to fight against a force that is strong enough to destroy everything they’ve worked so hard for. Love or duty, now they’ll all need to choose.

Laora's Review:

The author created a fantastical tale that enticed me to keep wanting to listen to the next book in the bundle.  The gargoyles vampires, a human and watchers are wonderfully crafted and the mc's in each book are worth it to join them on their journey to live a life that is more than to protect. Love is found and battles are fought and good prevails. For now, at the end. 📚 4*

The Stone Series was an extensive listen, but the narrator, Allen Jeffries, kept me engaged throughout the bundle. Some of the voices he created had tto grow on me for a bit. But they did make sense for the character forms/ nature. 🎧 4*

Overall 4*
