The Spooky Life (Spectral Files #4) by S.E Harmon

Not to be missed continuation of the Spectral Files series. A return to cold case investigations with psychic Rain and detective Danny while they again try to navigate the investigation and ghostly visits with the added pressure of planning their upcoming wedding.

From The Spooky Files blurb:

Rain Christiansen isn’t sure he’ll ever fully understand the supernatural. But he’s finally finding his groove as a reluctant medium and cold-case detective. That’s not to say everything is going smoothly—there’s a wedding in the works, after all. He’s finally taking that enormous step with fellow detective, Daniel McKenna, and he couldn’t be happier…about the marriage. Not so much the wedding. The hoopla is enough to make him wish for a quick flight to Vegas and an Elvis officiant.

At least work is keeping Rain and the PTU plenty busy. Their latest case involves Hannah Caldwell, a silent ghost who can’t—or won’t—speak. She still manages to request that they find her dear friend, Cherry Parker, so that she can say goodbye. Piece of cake. Finding people is pretty high on the list of things that Rain does best.

But when it comes to ghosts, nothing is ever quite what it seems. Before long, his simple missing person’s case takes a dark and twisted turn. And Rain realizes he’s been so busy trying to protect Danny that he forgot to protect himself.

If he doesn’t turn things around—and quickly—his spooky life might be cut short for good.

Jacquie's Review:

This is a series that just doesn't get enough attention and I don't get why, it has everything.

Interesting plot - Where's Cherry? Why's Hannah like that? What's going on?

Steam - Rain and Danny are engaged and are at it whenever possible but also, they really love each other and it just pours off the page. I seriously can't say enough about them together, it really gave me all the feels.

Ghosts - they add something to the mystery and I love how certain ones just pop up and help them out.

The rest of the cast - with the wedding planning, Danny's mom features more but it's great seeing how her relationship with Rain has grown.

It was so great to be back with Danny and Rain again, I loved seeing how each character has grown over the series and while I hope for more, I'm happy with where it is now

SNik's Review:

Fourth in series (The Spectral Files), must be read in order due to it being a continuing series. Established couple. Single POV.

A highly anticipated and comfortable return to our paranormal investigators, former FBI agent Rain and police detective Danny, as they plan their wedding and work on a missing persons case, with of course ghosts popping up all over to talk with Rain. Picking up shortly after the last book, Rain and Danny are really happy and in love, with sweet comments and plenty of steamy times, they are firmly committed.

There were moments of anxiety for me as a reader as the investigation had some stressful interactions. Really appreciate a story with no relationship angst and two main characters that really “get” each other. The romance and suspense story kept me entertained and again had me realizing why Rain and Danny are one of my favorite couples as the author brought all the swoon.
